Sorry no link or anything.. but from what I've read Malzahn had a hard time leaving Tulsa and enjoyed his stay there.. close to his hometown in Arkansas... makes sense to me and they've got talent for a school like Tulsa...

I don't see it. He's too hot for a place like Tulsa. His name is floating around if Lester goes to Ann Harbor. He's capable of a getting a bigger job than Tulsa. If he goes there, he's staying for 2 years max.

Tulsa may be an ok job but he can do better. Why turn down a job in the SEC even if it is Vandy to only take the job at Tulsa. He has his eyes on a bigger prize I would think.

Its funny to me that the guy is this hot. This is a guy who would still be coaching in high school if Houston Nutt didn't sell out to get Mitch Mustain and his receiver. IMHO, without Newton he is an average coordinator.

Tulsa is a better gig than Vandy, even if it's not an SEC school. A good starting point.

make sense. The recruit there will be ready to run his system. He will have immediate success in Tulsa compare to having to recruit at least two classes in Vandy to turn things around.

I mean no offense to the OP or anyone else, but am I the only person who is less than comfortable with our dedicating 80% of the forum to subjects pertaining to awbarn football???

The thought had already crossed my mind a time or two, but during Christmas holidays I had my boog brother-in-law throw my 'little brother' comment back in my face and use this forum as his example with a crap eating grin on his face. He was pretty proud of himself and sat there and counted how many threads and overall pages were devoted to au football, just on the first page of the forums here and then counted how many threads in total pertained to Bama football on their four main forums combined and it wasn't even remotely close. I didn't let it show, but it ticked me off a little.

I know we hate them and all, but lets remember who we are. Just because they're having success doesn't mean we need to start acting like them. I dunno....maybe its just me, but I definitely think way too much of our time and attention (and forum space) is being wasted on the boogs. They will NEVER overtake us as the premier program in this state and I think its good to keep that in perspective :)

But you didn't make him go to ITAT and do a similar comparison? Shame on you.

His record says otherwise. In two years at au he has won 23 games, including two bowl games. He has done an outstanding job recruiting, bringing to au the number one running back in the country and the number qb this year among others. he is 1-1 against Bama, losing only at the last second in game one

We like to make fun of everything au but Gus has proven he is the real deal.

He had a pretty dang good offense last year with Chris Todd as his QB. The guy can coach.

The stats would indicate that you're bias is coloring your view...

Tulsa's offensive rankings from the last five seasons:
2005: 39th
2006: 24th
2007: 1st (under GM)
2008: 1st (under GM)

2009: 35th

Total offense ranking for the last five years at Auburn:
2006: 76th
2007: 97th
2008: 104th
2009: 16th (under GM)
2010: 7th (under GM)

Call it whatever you want, but he's been effective wherever he's been.

I think Tulsa might be just the spot for Malzahn. Most big-time schools may be a little reluctant to make him their HC due to his relative lack of experience at the college level.

No such problems at Tulsa, and he'd even get a little bump in salary while he showed his stuff as a HC. There (as opposed to Vandy) he can put up some nice win totals on his resume, too. They have won 10+ games 3 out of the four years.

Tulsa would be the perfect job for Malzahn. He is familiar with the programs ins and outs. He won't have as high of expectations and will have a chance to grow into being a head coach more easily than at a bigger time school with unreal expectations. Your first car usually is not a Porsche for a reason even if you have shown good driving skills during Drivers Ed.

But only with Lowder recruits, scam and $$$$$$.

Without that hes easily a big 0 and in Now way is he anywhere near Saban's level. If hes so good why is he 5 years removed from high school?
Wouldnt major schools be knocking his door down? No they didnt.

He has lucked into some extreme talent, McFadden, Jones and Hillis at Arkansas and Cammy Cam at Aubbie.

I think it's the opposite. Without Malzhan, Newton is an average player. Half of his passing yards and touchdowns come from low-risk passing plays where he doesn't make reads and the dude is somehow always wide open. Don't forget Auburn fielded their best offense ever last year under Malzhan without Newton.

Is Malzahn really a hot name?

Schools that recently hired a new Head Coach?
Maryland
Vandy
Florida
Pitt
Michigan
Miami
Colorado
Temple
(plus several lower tier universities)

None hired him, though Vandy reportedly offered.

Will Malzahn get offers from the following schools that need a Head Coach?
Stanford
Tulsa
Connecticut

If he doesn't get a HC job this year, how hot a name can he really be?
