Marquis Maze Update
Coach Nick Saban has been all over the state of Alabama this week visiting and searching for the remaining prospects to fill the class of 2007. It appears coach Saban is out to seal the borders and seek top prospects who committed to other powerhouse schools.

One example is Michigan commitment, Marquis Maze, from Tarrant, (Ala.)
Bama Mag: Marquis Maze Profile

"I'm listening to them," Maze told Rebecca Johnston of Scout.com "Coach [Kevin] Steele contacted me, and I will visit next week for an official visit. They are recruiting me as an athlete."
That's all you could ask for.......well almost all! :)

maze is an incredible athlete, but his attitude is horrible. i went to high school with this guy and he was so cocky that the fellow football players ran him out so he then went back to tarrant. i hope he has changed because if he still has the personality and ego problem he had a couple years back then he wont make it very long in college.

U-M loses 2 commitments: Finch and Maze opt to go to school elsewhere instead
Marquis Maze has narrowed his choices to Tennessee or Alabama, according to his coach at Tarrant (Ala.) High School.

Like Finch, the multi-dimensional Maze - who dabbled in virtually every offensive skill position at Tarrant - changed his mind over the weekend.

"I'm not sure what happened,'' Tarrant coach Donny Rogers said. "I think (Nick) Saban coming to Alabama threw a wrinkle into everything. Nick Saban, he's the best, or at least one of the best.''

I'm sure Maze would not be the first cocky freshman to walk into Bama's locker room. The upper-classmen would take care of that.

Surfer, you continually amaze me. Do you never sleep? Thanks for the info. Guess the Maze & Blue will have to make do.......without Maze! :)

Not a whole lot here lately. I am a night person that unfortunately starts work early in the morning. I seem to be the night watchman on Tide Fans. ;) The two hour time difference, Nevada is 2 hours behind Alabama time used to make it look like I was posting after midnight. The post time registers in central time. But I have been in Alabama for over three months and it seems that I am still on the Nevada time schedule as far as getting to sleep goes.

If you're worried about cocky...
I'm old enough to remember the inflated hat size of our most famous number 12, Joe Willie, when he first drove into Tuscaloosa.
The guys at the barbershop I frequented used to talk about how Joe drove up in front of their shop in his old 49 Mercury that was smokin' like a refinery and Coach Bryant was riding shotgun. Coach escorted Joe into the shop (Joe was wearing his hair dead Elvis style with ducktails and sideburns.)
Coach said "Give this boy a haircut". Things seemed to straighten out quite a bit after that. Mike Fracchia also had an ego the size of Tuscaloosa County but the right coach, excuse me, THE Coach took no prisoners when it came to discipline. I expect Coach Saban will make these boys tow the mark or they're gone.

Maze considering Alabama. His high school coach says this:

Tarrant coach Donny Rogers said. "I think (Nick) Saban coming to Alabama threw a wrinkle into everything. Nick Saban, he's the best, or at least one of the best.''

You've got to like it when a high school coach says this about the state university coach.:)

Once a Wolverine, Tarrant's Maze to visit Tide

Once a Wolverine, Tarrant's Maze to visit Tide
Donnie Rogers pops in the videotape inside the Tarrant High gym and lets the film speak for itself.

Marquis Maze, Tarrant's diminutive, five-position spark plug returns a punt for a touchdown. He runs for another. Catches a pass for a third.

Shows off his passing arm with a bomb to Rogers' son.

I was glad to read he got his grades straightened out and is now qualified. I knew there were some issues about it before. The kid is scary fast with good moves.
