He's a lot like Mauk, so I'd expect the same type of career for him. Bouncing around as a backup at best. It's all up to where you go, and the QB situation there.

Flynn's a gamer but the Packers also drafted Brian Brohm who I think is a much better QB. What it does say is that they're not sold on Aaron Rodgers as their QB, it'll be interesting to see who lands that job going into next year.

I like Flynn, but it's going to be tough to even make the team. And the odds of him ever starting are essentially zero.

With the drafting of Brohm, Flynn will fight Craig Nall -- also a former LSU QB, who transferred to Northwestern State during Saban's first year -- for the final QB roster spot.

And that's going to be tough. Nall isn't a particularly special player, of course, but he has a lot of experience in both the NFL and NFL Europe. Moreover, he's very familiar with the Packers scheme, which is another advantage. And actually, he has played pretty well in the very limited playing time he has gotten.

I hope it works out for Flynn, but I'm afraid he is fighting an uphill battle.

Flynn is not a prototype NFL quarterback, but is clearly a capable one. He could stick a few years as a reserve and pocket some NFL minimum salary of $400,000 or so wearing a baseball cap, . . . Matt Mauck, Rohan Davey, and Josh Booty all did so recently. Or he could even achieve moderate success and a real career as Craig Nall did.

Nall was third-string behind Davey and Booty at LSU and had to transfer to Northwestern State his senior year to get some PT but he got drafted in the 5th, and has worked seven years as a reserve behind Favre and challenged for the start at Buffalo. Currently a reserve at Green Bay again, Nall may be cut to make room for one of the two new QB's just drafted, including Flynn.
