Sherrell and Bediako 13-15 from the FT line

Sure is a plus to have Bigs that have a good FT stroke.

Would like to see them be more aggressive toward the basket, like they did a few times tonight. Think they would get to the FT line more frequently, if they did.

Certainly a fun game to watch this evening. :)

Pleased with that effort last night. i really hope we can put more performances out there like this one. Having Bediako, Sherrell, and Bol Bowen on the floor at the same time causes issues for other teams.

Just the addition of Bediako feels like significant. That constant lob threat is keeping defenses honest. I love it.

And when you get Allen back you can really crash the boards with power.

We could go Philon, Allen, TBB, Sherrell and Bediako and be super big everywhere.

Though he didn’t have a huge night, having Aden out there changes everything about how we play. He’s a calming force out there. May be my favorite player this year.

Also, Bethea must be in such a big dog house than he can't even see the exit door. The UT game was a perfect situation for him to get minutes. He gets on the court, plays hero ball, turns it over, and that was that.

Coach gives a couple reasons why Bethea's not getting the minutes:

That was a "get right" game that we needed badly! When we shoot the 3 well, we are hard to beat. Maybe we'll heat up as a team from 3 going forward.

Observations:

1. I really like it when we have Beds and Sherrell playing at the same time. It allows Sherrell to play more like a power forward and face the basket. Despite his massive body, he's a forward trapped in a bigger person's body. Get Allen on the floor as a 3 with this combo and it could be our best "big" lineup!

2. Seems like there has been some emphasis on FT shooting! And when you combine us doing it better with what Mizzu did last night, a big scoring gap occurs. Their big was 1 of 7 from the FT line, IIRC.

3. Philon was better at the point last night. The more games we have him NOT being our featured scorer, the better we'll become as a scoring team. And when Philon passes better, the team follows suit. That may have been our best "team passing" game we've had in a while! And it led to more made 3s!

4. Playing Time: I'm not certain why Williamson is playing at this point. He's been a huge disappointment in terms of what we thought he could offer. Bethea has been another disappointment. He may be one of the most skilled guys on the roster. CNO is trying to reach him by taking away his PT to get his attention. But his body language on the bench last night was disturbing. I've seen guys look like they were mentally and emotionally checked out on the bench, and that's what he looked like last night. We really need Bethea to re-engage. If Philon were to get injured, we need him to play point to avoid shaking up the rotation no more than necessary because Holloway is just better off the ball and we need Allen to be more in a 3's role. FWIW, Bethea should be watching Holloway play defense. He's really improved his efforts. He's just limited because of his size. If Bethea gave the same effort as Holloway on defense, he'd be hard to keep off the court!

Everyone would do well to go read this article... and listen to Oats' post game presser when he talks about what led to the win. Cliff note's version is that he admitted they've gotten away from doing sufficient film work before games... in his words "winning the game before the game ever starts". He also flat out implied that if guys aren't willing to play defense they're not going to get PT. I don't know what that looks like going forward, but I like the way it turned out last night! RTR

That was a fun game to watch last night. I sort of felt the blowout coming at halftime.

We shot the ball so much better and Mizz shot it horribly. Hopefully this is the game that gives Wrightsell his confidence back.

Or if they made 60% of their free throws... :) Both teams left substantial points out on the court.
I wonder if kids today are more focused on practicing threes than they are frees...because it's more "glamorous"?

Kind of reminds of when kids go for the massive hit in football...and not tackling. I can't stand it when they do that and the ball carrier winds up getting a lot of additional yardage or scores!😖

There's a coaching fix for that, in theory.

Our coach put the whole team on the baseline and randomly picked someone to make 2 FTs in a one-and-one situation. Any miss was a suicide!

My mouth gets dry and I get a pain in my side thinking about it!
