Bama Game Thread: MBB Bama hosts Purdue - Thu Nov 13 6p CST ESPN2

To get outrebounded by as much as we did and only lose by 7 is fascinating.

There's no excuse for getting outhustled like that. We gotta get better. I'm sure that we will. RTR
Another factor to consider is that Bama’s lower offensive rebounding numbers are partly due to our bigs playing on the perimeter, especially around the 3 point line.

While I prefer if we would have won this game, this loss is probably more valuable RIGHT NOW than a win.

We've seen the enemy and now we know what it'll take to win a game like this.

Rebounding is the low-hanging fruit. It's true, but playing the type of offense we do, we will rarely ever OUT-rebound teams like this. I mean, we only lost by 7 and got outrebounded by 25. YES, we have to be better on the boards...BUT...

We are a guard-oriented offense. Our guards did not play well in this game. Offensively AND defensively. On offense, Hollaway was the exception, but Philon and Wrightsell struggled...honestly, they were terrible. The fact we only lost by 7 with the way Philon and Wrightsell played is almost the bigger story. And on defense, the #1 reason we lost this game is we got owned on the high screen pick ALL night. Their 5' 10" PG had wide open 3s all night long and hit most of them. We NEVER adjusted the whole game. To me, that's on CNO as much as the players.

So, hold their PG to fewer points (think he had 29) AND if our guards play better we still win this game despite getting out-rebounded by 25.
When #3 got his third foul early in the 2nd half I thought we'd start really going at him. We didn't

Right, this is why we will almost always get outrebounded by teams with more bigs.

The obvious improvement will be to avoid getting hosed by such a big number.

But, again, I think the bigger problem was our guards didn't deliver in the crunch when we really needed them aside from Holloway!

Yes, they one that lit us up.
Yeah, might have been smart. If he was checking Philon any, we could have tried to post him.

I know we normally don't do that, but it might have been worth trying to see if we could get a foul.

He's the reason we lost the game. The Bigs and their rebounding got all the attention, but when a 5'10" point guard lights you up for 29 that's your problem!

We kept playing for the runout from a quick long rebound. But we were outnumbered on defense when rebounding. I believe this is a coaching breakdown. We could have easily instructed all our players to crash the boards. This didnt happen so I put the loss on the coaches. If you have 2 7ftrs on the court you have put more guys on the boards.

Somehow, I believe the coaches thought the St John's gameplan would work in this game.
