i am sure that he is a wonderful person but as a football commentator, i'll take Eli and Snake any day.
I think we will be playing in Atlanta by then, but depending on how the BCS rankings shake out we might not be playing for the national title...

He does seem like a very nice guy but he's definitely one of the WORST color commentators on TV. I put him up there with Joe Morgan, Dick Buttons, and Billy Packer (though I loathe Packer with a passion unlike anyone else!) I am sure Morgan is a good guy too, but man does he never shut up!
And so I ain't totally being negative I will say that Joe Buck, Al Michaels, and Bob Costas are the best in the TV biz, but honestly Eli Gold beats them all in any medium, period!

Joe Buck is horrible. I'd rather stick toothpicks under my toe nails and kick a wall than listen to that tool bag.
I can honestly say that I have to mute the channel when I hear Brent Musberger on tv. He is by far my worse commentator EVER!! Worse than David Kellum on the radio for Ole Miss.
And I didn't know Eli Gold did anything else but I heard him commentating an arena football game a few weeks ago. Recognized his voice right away though and watched some of the game just because of it.

Eli is repulsive . Eli Gold is an embarrassment to the UofA .
Obviously he isn't pulling for Bama to lose , he just calls every play of every game as if he were .

RB falls forward , maybe back to the line of scrimmage , might have fallen forward for a yard or two . A loooong 2nd&5 now staring down at the Tide .

Thank God he was canned from basketball . I'm just sorry he's still around in any capacity . Sorry, but I can't stand listening to Dave. I would rather be subjected to listening to fingernails scraping on a chalkboard all day long than listen to him do color commentary on a game.

David Rowe is horrible. Give me southern announcer any day. Did you know he played for Penn st? if not he will tell you evry 10 minutes.
I think I can agree with that. Its sad that his declining health has forced him to only do west coast games the last few years. The pac10 is above only the big10 in my least favorite conference to watch list.
Dave Rowe loves the game of football and he loves calling SEC games. He isn't very good at it, but it's obvious he is a fan. I'll take that. I'm to the point that I actually enjoy listening to him because of his enthusiasm.
In my opinion, the two best color analysts going right now are Gary Danielson and Todd Blackledge. I also enjoy Chris Spielman.

Yep, Blackledge is great and I think Danielson did a nice job last season filling Todd's post alongside another very good play-by-play guy, Verne Lundquist. He's in my top five.
Eli Gold sucks? Who on earth do you usually listen to LCN? I have to confess that I haven't gotten to hear him much in the past few years but when I catch a clip of that golden voice there is no comparison. He may make mistakes but so does everyone (One of my all time favorites, Ron Franklin, was plagued with errors last year. His age is starting to show, which is why I'm glad Pat Summerall finally quit.) Eli did fine for basketball but it makes more sense for him to concentrate on football. I think he is definitely the best play-by-play voice in college football. I have heard many others and they pale in comparison. He has the voice and the speed necessary for SEC action. The fact that he can do hockey, NASCAR, football, and basketball is just more evidence of his skill. And I have to confess I haven't heard any Bama fan complain about him before and you have to admit it has been one big crap job for most of the past ten years. If he sounds down on our team at all maybe its because most of them undarachieve or just plain suck. I know for a fact I could never do it. All the audience would hear most of the time would be,
"What?!! Why the F@#* are we throwing long bombs when we're up by ten points?" " Great call Coach! Just take three steps back and hand it off to the only guy in the backfield while Ole Miss has eight guys in the box! Just Great!!!
