Mike Leach FIRED according to ESPN

Here is my problem with ESPN and alot of the attitudes of some posters on this board. Everyone is acting like Mike Leach had him sit in a dark room as punishment for getting hurt, now if that is true then I agree with him being fired but I don't see it that way. It is coming out a lot that the James kid has an attitude problem and was milking the injury (not faking but letting it be known he was hurt and didn't have to participate) now I equate this to the military, I have been in the military for over 10 years and when someone gets a profile/waiver (basically a note from a doctor that says you don't have to run/do pushups cause of a specific injury) and then rubs it everyone's face that they don't have to run while you do It makes pretty much everyone in the unit mad. I would have no problem with my first sergeant embarrassing the person with a profile by making him do ANYTHING within the parameters of his medical condition to let him know he still has to listen and do what he's told no matter what a doctor said, basically and attitude adjustment. The word here that has all the bleeding hearts crying is concussion, the kid has one but his attitude is what the problem was which is what the punishment was for. ESPN is running with the "in all the years I played I never had a coach do that to me when I had a concussion" but to make the story more accurate they should have former players come on and say "this is what my coach would do to me when I needed my attitude adjusted" Mike Leach didn't but him in a closest for any type of medical reason, it was to send a message to his team and the spoiled brat that a doctor doesn't excuse you from the coach.
That seems like a good fit, but I wonder how TT would mesh with the existing talent, which was recruited to play in an offensive scheme very different from anything he's used to coaching.
On the other hand, living in Auburn has prepared Tubs for the shining cultural center that is Lubbock, TX.
Sounds like Cutcliff at Ole Miss, and look how well that worked out for all parties involved.
Same thing - you do not take your employer to court if you want to keep your job in any profession (unless you are union :biggrin...
I agree that going to court probably gets you fired, but so far there is no evidence that an internal hearing where Leach got his say. There was no due process of law at all...TTU will pay through the nose for this, and not just in a future lawsuit that Leach will bring. Ticket sales will go way down; recruiting will take a big hit (Leach was actually starting to get a few 4 stars in his classes), and TTU football will suffer. I'm glad I went there the last few years and don't have to suffer through future games (got to see the epic UT/ TTU game last year). They were trying to expand the stadium too and now that won't be a problem. Glad I've grown up a Bama fan and only recently got into Tech football or else I'd be really upset.
Just as a lot of poeple took an internet post that said that James was out partying and spreading it as fact?
just like alot of media outlets/internet posters took what Craig James has been saying and spreading that as fact, no one knows any facts outside of the people involved. its just a matter of what you choose to believe

Adam will never see the field again, the assistant coaches didn't want the kid anyway. It was only because of leach that he got a scholarship.What a punk. I can see it now, you better play my son, do you know who I am?, I work at ESPN. Everybody better get lawyered up as they say and includes you ESPN.
Even though I'd hate to see him leave SMU.. Texas Tech would be CRAZY not to throw millions at June Jones and staff....

I agree - he seems to have been wronged by his employer. But, just as he made a poor decision in his dicsipline, he made a poor decision is allowing his lawyer to talk him into this legal action - unless his aim was to prompt the firing (in which case my estimation of his lawyer's abilities just went through the roof :biggrin2

Agreed - I think that we have heard enough to believe that all parties were wrong to varying degrees.
James acts like an idiot.
Then Leach follows suit.
Then the school went nuts and suspended Leach without due process - probably with an aim of firing him somewhere down the road.
Then Leach went crazy and allowed his lawyer to take his employer to court to allow him to coach the bowl game - possibly to force the university into a snap decision about his future at the school.
Then the school bites and fires him before his $800k payout is due.
And Tiger Woods says, "Thank you". :biggrin:

Employers need to be very cautious when the fire an employee who is suing them.
Imagine Apple or Dell or Ford have a woman that is being sexually harassed by her boss yet HR does nothing. The woman files a suit against her company.
If that company fires her then they give her the right to sue for wrongful termination AND they come off with a lot of bad publicity. I think it would be pretty costly for a company to do this especially for cases that may have a lot of visibility.

No one, and I mean no one, outside of TT and the James family have come out in support of James. This is a stark contrast to what happened with Mangino at KU. Tons of former players started coming out of the woodwork claiming Mangino abused them.
With Leach, that's not the case. Former players have come out overwhelmingly in support of him. There has been a grass-roots movement among former players and coaches to send emails to all media outlets explaining their relationships with Leach in an effort to paint him in a positive light. No one has done that with James. That's all the proof I need. I'm not close to the situation, so I'll trust those that are.
You've still never explained why this form of "punishment" was so bad. He was in a dark room with ice, water, and an air conditioner while the other players were out sweating at practice. That's too much punishment? C'mon...
TT hires June Jones. Adam Craig transfers to SMU. SMU hires Mike Leach. How funny would that be?

I have only found him guilty of that which he has admitted to doing. I have found all parties guilty of their misdeeds.
Agreed - unless the case is already being tried in the court of public opinion...
