Mike Leach FIRED according to ESPN

He hasn't "sued" for civil damages yet, although I fully expect him to bring a cause of action for breach of contract/ defamation/ etc. He only sought a TRO until he had his due process of law. Like you later wrote, I fully expect this to get very ugly now...

Same thing - you do not take your employer to court if you want to keep your job in any profession (unless you are union )...

The school fired him before the hearing cause they knew they would lose.
With a 'just cause' firing- they university is going to have to give details to the public. So we will see what they have to say.

TEAM? Not just team! Bet he leaves campus, also. He'll welcome sheds and closets to hide on the Texas Tech campus. IMO, He'll be shunned, big time. I doubt the entire State of Texas will be big enough for him to hide. Bet he'll be a target for bullies. Just saying.

Players and coaches have said Adam James is 'unusually lazy and entitled' and referred to as a complete jerk. Maybe Craig's employer can try to spin this in their favor,,, Doubt it.

It's been known for some time that Leach isn't exactly popular with some of the powers that be at Texas Tech. He's just an odd duck, and his personality doesn't exactly fit in well with the culture of Lubbock, TX. The fans love him, the students love him, but quite a few of the big wheel donors to the program apparently can't stand the guy.

I recognize that the prevailing opinion on this thread is pro-Leach and honestly comes across as "Why wasn't James tough enough to practice with a concussion?"

There doesn't seem to be any disputing that he had one. In 2009, if a player has a concussion, it is a medical issue, not a discipline issue. Period. Does anyone seriously believe that Leach did what he did as a form of "treatment"?

I think Coach Saban is a pretty hardnose coach (and I'm glad of it). He deals with discipline issues well. I have little or no doubt that as long as the doctors said there was a concussion, his response would never be to go stand in a shed/equipment room/whatever for three hours.

Clearly Leach had worn out his welcome with his AD and this gave the AD the opportunity. He'll have to sue for his buyout as this is a termination for cause.

I liked the line on ESPN last night that the Alamo Bowl is a team without players vs. a team without a coach.

So they are either really, really stupid, or they have more evidence than we think...

There's no way they're going to prove cause without going through a lengthy, potentially embarrassing legal fight. The firing with cause is just to establish a position from which to negotiate a settlement on his buyout.

They'll reach a mutually agreeable settlement, terms not to be disclosed, and both parties will go their merry way.

I will take who is really, really stupid for $1000 Alex.

TT is using contract language to support the firing. I think they will lose badly in court but I think Leach, who has never been fired anywhere, will clean out his office and move to the next job letting his lawyer take care of the aftermath. TT has to pay Leach $400K for the next 4 years anyway so he has a cash flow if he wants a vacation.

I feel like this makes Texas Tech look absolutely awful. They look like they took a non-issue and blew it out of proportion just to have an excuse to get out of paying and firing a coach that for some reason they didn't like. I don't know much about how the Texas Tech fanbase feels, but I'm guessing they liked/loved Leach. He made that program what it is today. I'm going to guess that the Texas Tech fanbase is livid right now.

I can't wait to see who they try to and finally end up hiring. Going to coach in a tiny town in the middle of no-where Texas with an AD that just fired an outrageously successful coach because he sent a kid with a mild concussion to a garage and a fanbase that probably isn't too happy with you being there doesn't sound like fun to me. Leach's system is what got kids to be willing to go to Lubbock. So much for that.
