Here's the scouting report on Beau at mlb.com:
BEAU HEARODU ALABAMA 1B R/R 5'10" 195 1981-04-03 4YR COMMENT: Medium, solid, compact build. Similar to Brian Giles. Ball jumps off bat. Occasional long bal power. Enough arm for RF. Strong kid for size.

Travis Garner, Brian Reed, Adam Pavkovich: not listed

btw, 1st round + supplementals are done and no sign of Stonard yet. I'll let someone else do the dirty work of trying to track down our high-school signees

Some familiar names have been taken already:
Paul Maholm (MSU) #8 Pirates
Aaron Hill (LSU) #13 Toronto
Ryan Wagner (Houston) #14 Cincy
David Aardsma (Rice) #22 Giants
Bradley Sullivan (Houston) #25 A's

notables from Round 2 (no sign of Stonard, Hearod or Bass yet)

Brian Finch (A+M) #44 Orioles
Scott Beerer (A+M) #47 Rockies
Javier Herrera (Tenn.) #48 Indians
Logan Kensing (A+M) #53 Florida

round 3 done. Nothing much to report there. None of our guys taken yet (but again, I'd need help tracking down the high schoolers other than Bass)

oops, forgot to add that the Padres took him, so maybe Gwynn put in a good word for him after all.

BTW, Gwynn Jr. was taken #39 by Milwaukee, 2 picks before SD's own 2nd round pick.

I've been following the draft as well. I wish Pete the best, he is a heckuva baseball players, but he made some mistakes that let himself and his teammates down. RTR

football QB/baseball signee Cliff Davis (listed under Jon Davis taken round 6, #179 by Houston. Video also available on him at mlb.com

179 JON DAVIS EUPORA HS RHP R/R 6'5" 205 1984-12-31 HS56K | 300K COMMENT: Tall, lanky, live athletic body. Excellent pitcher's build. Body similar to Bob Welch. Live, quick arm, works right. Curveball is potential out pitch with wicked, 3/4 plane, freezes right-handed hitters. Lots of upside. Outstanding football quarterback, signed with University of Alabama. Loves to compete. Gamer, comfortable in his surroundings.

Bo beat me to it, but Beau #299 to Houston and Adam Bass #306 to Arizona.

Wasn't Bass a signee from last year who never made it to school? Or did they mean UAB? Anyone know?

With Pavkovich getting drafted as only a junior he has a choice to stay at Alabama or take the contract. When will we know if he is staying or not. If anyone knows the answer to my question please reply.

Through 16 rounds, I do not see that any of our signees (discounting Cliff Davis) have been drafted, so things look good on that front.

Charles Bressoud, round 26, #787 to the Braves.

787 CHARLES BRESSOUD NORTH COBB HS C R/R 6'2" 185 1985-05-12 HS56K | 300K COMMENT: Brent Mayne type body. Athletic catcher with arm strength. Hands getting softer. Flashes short, slashing stroke to gaps. Has tools. Signed with Alabama.

And that looks to be about it. After Reed, I didn't notice any of our players or signees taken through the 50th round, so hopefully we'll get all these guys (with the possible exception of Pav and Cliff Davis) on the team next year.

Overall, looks like we managed to dodge the MLB bullet that has hit us the last few years.

some stuff I gleaned from Baseball America. I guess we would have lost Jai Miller in the long run anyway to MLB

<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">4:54 PM ET
Mutli-Sport Star Jai Miller
Marlins fourth-rounder Jai Miller (announced as Randall Miller) has signed with Stanford as a wide receiver was also a basketball and baseball standout at Selma (Ala.) HS. They expect to sign him swiftly.

a couple of other interesting notes:
<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">12:45 PM ET
Powell Finally Popped
One of day one's biggest surprises was that Landon Powell wasn't selected. The Cubs finally announced his name in the 25th round. If Powell returns to South Carolina for his senior year, that could affect the decision of Phillies 20th rounder Rob Johnson, a catcher from a California JC who is regarded as a third-round talent and is headed for South Carolina.

<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">1:51 PM ET
Twins Nab Switch-Pitcher
Minnesota announced 27th rounder Pete Taraskevich (American Heritage High, Sunrise, Fla.) as a righthander, but he's a legit switch-pitcher. He has hit 90 mph from the right side, 85 mph from the left.

I really hope CJ comes to Bama, but being from GA and being drafted by the Braves doesn't really help us, IMO. But, whatever he choses, I wish him the best.

I played baseball for a long time with Jai Miller, and he can play. He's a good kid, and I'm wondering if the MLB bucks will talk to him....RTR
