Fellow TideFans-
I read daily- usually multiple times a day.
-I have been offered a sales promotion, but it means leaving Nashville for Minnesota. Ultimately, it means leaving the South- I have lived in TN/AL my 35 years- My question is this- are there any readers/ posters/ lurkers that live in, close to Minneapolis? Am I crazy for thinking about it?
I know this is the wrong forum, wrong time with draft day, but this is a respected read in my book, and readers are from far and wide.
BTW- Graduated in 1996- Witnessed NO live in '92, and cannot imagine not having the 11:30a Suturday game not be the early JP game. Thank goodness Bama is usually the national game. (Or) At least have this website to rely on-
-and to the MODS- your reach is much greater than what you see posted.

Friend, you are the only one that can make that decision. Myself, would not leave the southeast unless I had no choice. I had the chance to go to Saskatoon and San Diego and turned both down. Money isn't everythiing but happiness and family are, at least that's the way I look at it. You can always get game plan or PPV for the football. But, only you can make the decision.

I moved to IL over 12 yrs ago. You can always move back even with the same company. A friend of mine came up here about a year afterwards. He moved back after a couple of yrs with the same company. He lives in GA now and is still with the same company.

You can get the games for free if they are on Gameplan. Just make sure to get a high speed connection. espn360.com has all the Gameplan stuff and you don't even need to be an Insider if your ISP subscribes (sbcglobal/Yahoo/ATT do). You could probably even route it to your TV with one of the flat screens.

I tried watching the UGA game from Chennai, India last fall (got up at like 5:00 AM on Sunday just so I could watch it). That's when I found out that your ISP has to subscribe. The FAQ's basically say go home and connect. Thank goodness for DVR.

If you're hoping to find 'Bama fans in that particular area, give this link a punch:

Am I crazy for thinking about it?

Firstly congratulations on being offered a promotion. Just do whatever YOU think will better your life as well as your family's. Don't worry about everyone else or anyone else. Just go with what you feel is necessary and good luck on whatever decision you make!

Don't forget your copy of "Yankee speak for dummies". Also heard the fishing is terrific in Minnesota the three months out of the year the lakes aren't frozen over.

I'm an avid lurker, not so much a poster, but I moved to Minneapolis from AL two years ago. It's Vikings and "U of M" (Minnesota) land here so you will definitely need Tidefans to stay up on the news.
I'm sure there's a way to message me on here if you want any info on the area. Otherwise, welcome to Minnesota. After living in AL/GA all my life, this place has grown on me!

About six months the lakes are frozen over, the fishing is excellent, if you know where the drop offs are. Lot of monster northern pike.
Side note. The three months that are not mentioned, because of the thaw, it is too teacherous to fish.

I've PMed you already, but I second the fishing talk. I've made several canoe camping/fishing trips to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, and over into Quetico Park in Canada. Beautiful area...

We have a poster on here (MNBamaFan, I think) who lives up there. I don't know if he is still on here, but maybe he'll post a reply. As to your question, only you can make that decision. But do think about this - You already know the answer. You knew it when the offer was made and you're either trying to talk yourself out of it now or into it. Whichever you choose, the choice will be the right one for you right now at this point of your life. Sometimes in life you never get a 2nd chance.

The higher-ups offered you the promotion and location for a reason. Turn it down and they'll remember it later in your career. Unless there's an overriding family or economic reason not to take the promotion, I say go for it. But you gotta' make the call; I'm just a faceless blogger with no skin in the game.

During my working days I worked with some great folks from the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. They told me at the time (1980s & 90s) they have an excellent public school system. I have no first-hand knowledge of this, though.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

If you look at it as an adventure, a learing experience, and a chance to broaden your (and your family's) horizons, then you should enjoy the move. Remember it doesn't have to be permanent. I'd say give it shot. Of course, this is coming from someone who joined the USAF out of college and has traveled the world. I had concerns over a couple of moves I made during that time, but they all turned out well. At each location I learned about different cultures, met some great people, and experienced some neat things that I never would have if I had stayed "at home."

Don't get me wrong. I love living in Alabama and being "back home." But I also enjoyed traveling and going to new places. And, I'm sure the experiences I had elsewhere also made me appreciate being "back home" even more. You'll have to decide what you think is best for you and your family. Good luck either way.
