My take on the Texas matchup after viewing their film~!~(SMACK WARNING!)

OH my.. where to start.

So.. a first year starter wants it more than a 5th year senior, who has worked his way up from an unheralded high school kid taken as an afterthought?.. a 5th year senior who has put on 30 pounds of muscle... has studied hours and hours of game film... has steadily developed over this time in Austin... has led 4th quarter come back victories over Oklahoma last year and this year... over Ohio State... who has set the NCAA record for most victories... who in the past 2 years is 25 - 1... who has been on the big stage and excelled..again.. and again.. and again...

As for turning in a "tebow like performance..." let's see.. Tebow has fewer yards passing than Colt.. fewer victories.. fewer passing touchdowns...

You go to 120 college football coaches and asked them if they preferred Colt right now or your quarterback right now... would there by fewer than 2 who would say your QB?

You have an outstanding team.. of that there is no dispute.

But... come now.
I actually agree with most of what you say. Colt has the experience edge and is probably the better overall athlete. However I would argue 2 advantages Greg does have. Colt has never played a whole season facing the quality of defenses Greg faced week in week out this year. I'd also argue that Colt has never played on bigger stage than Greg did last weekend. That game may have had more hype than Jan 7th will because the majority of the country felt like whoever won that game will win the NC.

McElroy is 1-0 in #1 vs #2 games. What is McCoy's record?
Well.. let' see. .last year..

We played and beat.. the Number 1 ranked Ou team.. which resulted in a 10 point win.

The following week, we played and beat a Number 11 ranked Missouri team and crushed them...

The next week, we played. .and defeated a Number 8 ranked Okie Lite team...

The next week, we played and lost on a last second miracle grab by Crabtree after Colt had led us to a go ahead touchdown with about 1:40 to play.

Then... there was the come from behind victory in the Fiesta Bowl in which Colt engineered a last minute drive as well.

yeah.. Colt is nails.

What sets this game apart is the defenses and this is where Championships are won and lost. Well that and the OL...
Texas has a decent defense especially up front but not looking at the Nebraska game to be fair to all and not the SECCG (not that it matters) but our defense could and probably is he best one we have EVER fielded including the 92 defense. That whipping we put on the defending NC's sure looked alot like the 92 NC game against the U.

I don't know if I would go that far. I thought earlier in the year this defense might become as good as the 92 but I'm not so sure. They are close and yes they play lights out but the secondary in 92 was incredible and was able to get many picks and capitalize on them for points. This years secondary, while very good, does not force a lot of turnovers. This gives 92 the edge in this category. Also, our line this year is great against the run but does not get as much pressure on the QB without help. Stallings had the luxury of using three on the line a lot of the time and getting Copeland and Curry in the backfield just on their talent. Edge goes to 92 line.

Lastly. In looking at the Florida game, the team played extremely balanced. In 92, the defense scored or set up the score more and the offense had their best game of the year. This year the offense controlled much more of the game and limited Tebow on the field. If the offense had not ate up so much time (beautifully constructed drives) then Tebow might have made the game closer.

I love this team this year. They are so complete and I'm taking nothing away from them. They will go down as one of the best Bama teams to ever take the field. But I'm not sold on the 92 defense not being better (at least not yet) because that defense carried that team (along with the leadership of Barker).

Before some of you guys go off the deep end with the defenses, you do realize that the Big 12 is down this year, right? I mean NEB played one of the EASIEST schedules in the world and still lost games over it. I mean it is really the reason Suh has done so well. Ark St, Baylor, etc. I mean come on. Really? You really think Texas has a defense?!? #1 rushing defense against teams who don't rush. Amazing how they got that stat. McCoy is a good QB, but Bradford is 10 times better. McCoy can be hurt and he panics. This one will be over before it really even gets going. Mark it down... #13 on the way.

Our guys just have to go out there and play the game the way they are suppose to play it.

Realize that someone with the handle "GMacFan" is gonna be a little overzealous about said GMac.

McElroy is a role player who's playing his role very well right now -- he's coming off the game of his life in the biggest game of his life, and people are excited about that.

But you're right -- VERY few level heads would say McElroy's abilities are that close to McCoy's.

So the short version of your answer is 1-0. The same as our QB.

BTW - It's not last year anymore.

McCoy is a great QB. I just wander if McElroy's numbers would be much different that McCoy's this year if he played in the Big 12?

No, he was absolutely correct in the first place. Read the national press to see what the national attitude is...
Certainly not THAT ESPN.. the same ESPN who has a multi billion dollar contract with the SEC.. would to ANYTHING to overhype the SEC, its players or its teams.. No. .that would never happen!

Well, this might help - passing efficiency rating:
Colt McCoy: 147.46
Greg McElroy: 142.01 (against much better defenses)

Just sayin'...
True, but McCoy has to be the offensive spark for Texas all the time, he has no one else to rely on. Greg has the luxury of a running game. When Greg was at his worst, the run game was at its best. Conversely, Greg played well when we needed him to. I am not so sure Greg would have flourished this season if he was the lone offensive spark.

From an Bama perspective, it is nice to have that sort of balance offensively.

From a Texas perspective, McCoy is the better quarterback and the only leader for Texas offensively.

Ok here is what i have an issue with... Colt Mccoy can be ten times better than greg mcelroy (im not saying he is) but if he is not better than the alabama defense its really irrelevent. Greg doesn't play colt..it just cracks me up this mentality of "our Qb is better than yours" News flash.... Greg just has to be better than the Texas Defense.

Now.. how do you hypothesize that McElroy played much better passing defenses this year? In fact, aren't SEC stats regarding passing defenses skewed significantly because SEC offenses are not known for passing attacks? Wouldn't less polished passing attacks result in fewer passing yards?

Going on.. Texas has won when Colt has not had great days. If Texas can contain the Bama rushing attack.. as Auburn did... doesn't McElroy have to have a career day to enable you to win?
