When the NCAA announced sanctions against Auburn's basketball program, it wasn't clear who the primary target was: the university or summer league basketball?

Auburn coaches were cited only in regard to their relationship with Mark Komara, a Huntsville restaurant owner and summer league coach accused of trying to steer two recruits toward the school.

The NCAA ruled that Komara was serving as a representative of Auburn, the first time the governing body of college athletics has done that with a summer league coach, according to Thomas Yeager, chairman of the NCAA's Committee on Infractions.

Yeager said he hoped the ruling "debunked" the notion that such coaches were immune from NCAA rules and served as a warning to players choosing teams for offseason ball that they might wind up facing college eligibility problems.
