I’m not sure I care for the short turnaround the teams that played yesterday get. Doesn’t make sense for the teams that played on Saturday to play Friday and the teams that played on Sunday to play on Thursday. Should be plenty of rest, sure, but it’s weird that one side of the bracket gets 4 days while we get 6.

yeah, doesn't seem fair that BYU gets an extra day of rest over us. That should have been reversed.

As for us, I like the Michigan matchup far better than the Creighton one, or what could have been aTm. Good team but they play clunky B1G ball and matchup wise that should be good for us. Two bigs, lots and lots of drop coverage, and everything is predicated on funneling stuff toward them. Creighton was doing a lot of that drop coverage with Kalkbrenner and that’s why we kept getting so many of those pull up pops and tear drops from Tahaad, Denver and CBM. Michigan will try and defend us the same way, likely, to keep Johni from getting rolling.

The X factor for them will be Tre, their 1 and a guy that was at Auburn last year. He’s not the best scorer but he’s a quick as a hiccup dribbler and excellent drive and dish or finish guy. He’s been delivering in late game situations too. Hit several game winning drives lately. I’ll be clinched up if we are up one with five seconds on the clock, and he has the ball in his hands lol.

For the Elite 8 if we get by Michigan, Ole Miss looks absolutely lethal right now. I picked them to beat ISU but even I’m surprised at the sheer fury they poured out on them last night. Pedulla is on fire lately.

CSU got hosed. The Maryland kid absolutely took 3 steps. Regardless you can’t allow a player to get that close to the rim. Officials are swallowing their whistles in that circumstance.

“The SEC now has 7 teams in the Sweet 16, the most for any conference ever at that stage of the NCAA Tournament.”

Good read!
One interesting tidbit it that only one of these seven is an expansion team, that being Arkansas from the 1992 expansion. Everyone else is a founding member of the SEC. No South Carolina, aTm, Missouri, Texas or Oklahoma.

Unbelievable how many walks/travels go uncalled in the game today.

And when was the last time a dribbler got called for "carrying?" I mean, Mark Sears does it 20 times a game. When I played in the 80s/90s that was called a regular basis.

The game has changed so much!

carrying, no question they just don’t call it anymore.

Travels will still get called fairly frequently but the big sticking point is “what is a gather step?”

BYU doesn’t play on Sundays due to LDS policy. But I agree our quarter of the bracket should have also been on a Thursday/Saturday schedule for the first two rounds.

You’re basically allowed to take a third step if your first step is you “gathering” the ball while pulling it in or picking up your dribble.

it’s basically the part of the traveling rule that makes the euro-step look like a travel to the untrained eye.
I think the gathering step is what the refs may have judged the Maryland player doing to make it look like three steps. It was very close and difficult to call at game speed. I think the player walked when he turned before starting his dribble.

Bama ladies down 3 in OT, last second shot by Barker, fouled, hits all 3 FTs to send to second OT. Really impressive.
