Re: Nighthawk R7000...

Thought it was a motorcycle when I first read this....it's a wireless router though...right? :)
LOL. With its antennaes spread out, it does look sort of like a bird, thus the name. I'll go back and add in "Netgear." Our house is very long and one business computer is probably 100' from the router, so the signal was weak, even with an amplifier. I bought the new Netgear Orbi system and it's working very well...

I assume this is the AC1900? I am using one here and it's a quality router. If someone needs one I advise getting while the getting is good.
It is. The reason I changed was that the satellite which comes with the Orbi system is much stronger and I just wasn't able to relocate the Nighthawk to a more central position in the house. The house is all strung out, so to speak, :) - 160' from one end to the other...

I'll tell you what though, if no one has claimed it, I would like to have it.
My nephew expressed an interest. If he doesn't take it, I'll PM you and get contact info. The Orbi does seem to be our answer. I was using a little Alpha amplifier, plugged right into the computer which is so far away. One problem is that the whole middle of the house is held up by massive Roman brick room divider cum fireplace and it sits squarely in LOS from the router. With the Orbi, I was able to station the satellite so that the signal detours around the masonry. Some people have had a bad time with the Orbi, both with setup and also dropped signals, restarts, etc. So far I haven't. Didn't really have any with the Nighthawk, except for the distance and obstacle...

My house isn't terribly large, it's just poorly laid out for WiFi, being split-level and there is only one place I can put the router which is at the far end of the house. Perfect for being in the living room, not good at all for any of the bedrooms.

It really sounds like the Nighthawk might handle your situation. It's very powerful, just not powerful enough to travel 100' through a brick wall. I'll let you know...
