Keymiya Harrell

Keymiya Harrell - Yahoo! Sports

This kid apparently just verbaled to the barn. Did Cheese get a diamond in the rough? Or is this unranked prospect a sign that, at least on defense, the barn is going to miss out on the blue chippers still available?

While the barn has a few good recruits on their commit list, it seems to lack quality depth. (I acknowledge it's still early in the process.)

Thoughts?

Re: Keymiya Harrell

This kid is from my high school, Dallas County High School near Selma. Although I haven't heard a lot about him, this area does produce a lot of good, raw athletic talent.

Probably the best example is Michael Johnson, the DE from Georgia Tech. He was not ready for college when he graduated high school, but he turned out to be a good one. So Harrell might be worth the investment of a scholarship for the Barn, but I would say Bama has more field-ready prospects from which to choose.

I hear that Gene Chizik is the front runner for the Coach Mike Shula Recruiting Trophy.

The CMSRT is awarded yearly to the coach of a BCS conference school signs the most players who otherwise were headed to a non-BCS conference school or a Jr. College. Bonus points are awarded for any coach that gets really excited over 2-3 star recruits and pretends that they are 5 star players.

If Chizik doesn't win the trophy I don't know who will.

He obviously is a good athlete or he wouldn't be recruited by any school. However, the fact that Rivals doesn't even rank him in the top 40 in Alabama tells me that he isn't a blue chip player. Further, he only had offers from Miss St., Auburn and UT...which we know is hurting more than they have in years. This simply reminds me of some of the players we tried to be positive about during CMS days...those players rarely if ever turned into great players. That's all I'm saying.

I know nothing about this kid. However, we get excited about 3-stars so I could care less if the Barn is excited about this one. Maybe he'll be great?? As we have all stated before, the 2-3 (and sometimes 4 star prospects) need to be coached up. Some have a higher learning curve than others.

Within the next 1-3 yrs, we'll be able to see if Cheeze-it has the ability to coach up his kids, which I seriously doubt. Even then, many of these recruits will most likely NOT see their full potential... which is pretty sad if you think about it.

It is hard to understand why people still want to dis CMS's recruiting when his time as a Bama HC was a time that was shorted 21 scholarships, no Bowl games and Bama wasn't attractive to many top recruits........yet players he recruited made a huge contribution to winning #13. One of his recruits (GMac) may help win #14.
Under normal conditions I would take CMS over CGC, for HC and/or recruiting, anytime.

CGC (api) is recruiting good players......CNS (Bama) is recruiting great players.

I love the comment:
"Who knew there were so MANY diamonds in the rough!"
Down at Auburn...Didn't you know?

There are more "diamonds" than "rough"...

But honestly, the Auburn folks I know are already touting..."We always recruit ok, but...at Auburn we get the most out of our players". Hmmm, Nick Saban gets some of the most talented players in the nation & gets the most out of them!! I like Nick Saban's way! :biggrin2:

4 SEC offers before his Sr. season starts? (The other being Arkansas) Sounds pretty good if you ask me. The day an SEC coach starts offering kids based on their Rivals star rating is the day they should start packing up their office.

You mean 3 star players like Glenn Coffee, Brandon Deaderick, Corey Reamer, John Parker Wilson, Bobby Greenwood, Javier Arenas, Greg McElroy, etc....

I'm not saying stars don't matter. Overall, the higher rated recruits pan out more often than the lower rated ones. But you can't knock a guy like this when he hasn't even started his Sr. season.

When the initial rankings came out this year, Malcolm Faciane wasn't even ranked, he's currently a 3-star. He has been invited to play in the Under Armour High School All American Game. He will probably be a decently high 4 star by the time it's all said and done.

To be fair, Keymiya Harrell isn't some 6'0" 200 lb DE. He's a kid with pretty decent size. I guess I just don't see the need to knock our opponents down before they even get a chance to prove themselves. What happens if this kid becomes a star? Let's let our team and our winning do the talking.

BTW, he will be in the top 40 players in Alabama by the time it's all said and done. He'll probably even be in the top 20-25.
