New coach search...

Alabama ought to beat out Auburn or UAB for talent. They may not get every guy, but they should get more than Auburn/UAB does. We have more resources - by far.
Key word here is ought. I think Bruce Pearl is going to be a legit threat in a few years, and UAB carries a great deal of momentum with their young team's success. But you're right that we have more resources, but the problem is who do we get and can he hold Pearl at bay? Us wasting this much time on Marshall and pulling the trigger so late on Grant, could potentially set us back 2-3 years. We still have a shot to be an above average team, but time is a wasting for how soon that will be. The longer we wait on getting a coach, the stronger the UAB and Auburn postion strenghtens.

Agree. I think you offer both Miller and Smart (Problems with UT and buyout) and see. Prohm isn't as bad as everyone seems to think. (Famous last words!)

He'd be a heck of a lot cheaper too. I feel sure we could get him get 1.5 or so. Put the difference between Prohm and that liar Marshall back into the recruiting budget for travel and evaluation. I'd find out who he is recruiting and go after every one of them.

We should start hearing leaks soon about someone being contacted. I believe Millers interest was gauged during the Marshall pursuit. I think it was stated on Another board that there was interest from Miller but hopefully this pans out soon. I would not mind seeing Miller on the sidelines myself

I'm not sure if Mike Davis would do it or not, but AlabamaIntel has a good suggestion on what to do if Steve Prohm gets the job....

Note: If UA goes this rout, I believe you should gauge the interest of Mike Davis returning to be associate head coach if both parties are comfortable. Prohm will not demand a 3 million+ salary, so use some of those mega dollars offered to Gregg Marshall to beef up the Murray State;s coach’s staff with a standing HC that is a Bama graduate who has extensive ties to the state. Pay him $500,000-$600,000 to assist a young coach in Prohm and could give the Crimson Tide immediate juice in recruiting, especially to some current elite in-state talent. Davis could recruit head-to-head with the likes of the above-mentioned coaches and the rest of the SEC, except for perhaps Kentucky.

All three of his recruits this season are unstarred. Interestingly enough however, 2 of the 3 play for Tuscaloosa County. I guess he's kept his Tuscaloosa ties close on the recruiting trail. If recruits from the state are familiar with him, that might give him a head start for next year. This year is all but lost, unless we get someone by the end of the day tomorrow.

RTR, Mike Davis is way too proud to serve, in Crash Davis' words, as a "stable pony." Besides, he sure seems to scare some of the folks in charge.

Now there is a classy post.

I won't argue with that, although I'm not as sure of Pearl truly turning around Auburn as you are.

If Miller only makes 800k/yr, then why did we let the whole Marshall thing drag out this long? He's not even making 7 figures yet, so it would be hard to turn down say, 2.3 million. I'm sure there were signs that Marshall wasn't coming. Nobody is that good of a liar (if he indeed played us). At the first sign of trouble, BB should have gotten on the phone with Miller. I know it isn't a sure thing, but it would be even harder for him to turn us down than it would've been for Marshall, especially for a guy who doesn't even make a million

Then you what is your personal opinion on CNS. He did the same thing so many times.

First to say I've been annoyed with some of CNS and Jimmy Sexton's antics. However, I don't recall having an AD from another school flying into Tuscaloosa and meeting with CNS for 8 hours like Battle did Monday. There's also talk that Battle flew to Wichita last week, too.

Define turning around. Im only worried that he will be more successful than us for the majority of the next 5 years. My main concern for our next coach is to be ahead of the mid tier teams in the SEC to include LSU and Auburn. The NCAA tournament can wait, im more focused on being better than the boogs an the corndogs for the time being.

FWIW I really dont think Pearl is going to win the SEC, let alone own it like the boogs seem to think.

I NEVER .....let me repeat NEVER.....thought I'd see a 193+ page thread dealing with Bama Hoops.

You could have told me that Anthony Grant stripped nekkid and beat up 3 nuns with his manhood, and I'd have said, "meh, 20 pages, tops!"
