New coach search...

Maybe miller has already said no? Just guessing here. I have a feeling they are going to offer the job to Prohm and soon. Again, just guessing here.
From what I've been hearing, I agree. But if we do, then we had better hurry. As much as I think Prohm will accept it since he says its his dream job (I also hear that he has a contract exception where there would be no buyout if he left for bama. Idk if this is true or not.) I imagine there's a point in time where he would turn it down. IMO that would make us look really bad if the bama guy wouldn't even take it.

I saw somewhere that Miller said he and his family were very happy in Dayton and with the basketball program and had no desire to entertain any offer. Now whether that is coach speak or not I don't know, but it sounds similar to what Marshall said about relocating and his family. So take it for what it's worth. IMO Hurley would be a better hire than Prohm or White, but what the hell do I know I voted for Dubose.

I just really believe it will be Prohm. Being a Murray Alum and big Alabama fan, I really think that after Marshall this is not a bad hire. Not a big splash but will be exciting brand of ball. I do know that some people at Murray feel he is gone.

Hurleys name has certainly intrigued me as well. I would be curious to know who and how many are actually on the short list now or if in fact it is those two now. I know Cecil said the other day that he thought Prohm and Miller were on the list but Prohm and White are being reported by Goodman from ESPN . I will say that I never thought White was actually on the list, that one surprised me (not that he may not be good) but its the first time we have seen his name tied to a short list. Who knows at this point right? Don't feel bad about Dubose, he was a popular fan pick at the time.:)

‏@GoodmanESPN Two candidates in the mix for Alabama post-Gregg Marshall pursuit: Murray State's Steve Prohm and Louisiana Tech's Mike White.

If either one of these are hired it would almost certainly set the program back at least 10 years. In fact, it may end any realistic hopes of Bama ever becoming a player in collegiate basketball: at the end of 10 years it would be 20 years since Bama had the Gotttried success. Very few would be left to care.

Bama NEEDS to get this hire right. They took a great shot, IMO, the best shot, with Marshall. Please don't give up now.

Who do you expect Bill Battle to get? The options aren't great.

Before everyone jumps off of a bridge, I guess we first need the following question answered: What coach with an outstanding proven record against quality competition (or a Marshall-at-Wichita equivalent) is not even making close to what Bama may offer him? My guess is that it is not a long list to begin with. Before we stone Battle in the town square, what does he really have to work with? So far, we have only legitimately lost out on Marshall. Smart would've gone to Texas first, all day long. We would have had to secure him super-quick after the Grant firing to make that happen, but our sights were on Marshall. And I'm fine with that. CGM was the better prospect. So, am I hearing from the chicken littles that if it's not Marshall, that we are done for? That a mid-major coach can't come in here and win? Where do you think Marshall was coming from? Kansas or Kansas State? Billy Donovan says hello. We can win with even an unproven, IF he's the perfect fit. I don't want it to end up that way anymore than anyone else does. But someone tell me, what are the realistic choices from our short list? I said realistic. How can you be mad at Battle over what's available? His silence tells me that he's working his butt off behind the scenes trying to get the best possible candidate available. Evidence? Pitino Jr. was not even on the list. That tells me that Battle is workin' them phones. How is that bad news? Maybe some folks should step away from the computer for a bit and chill...

well mad - maybe not - He did make a crucial error in my mind though. The moment CGM made it to the sweet 16 he should have been making overtures to other top tier coaches that were available, just as mal did when CNS told him to wait. Find another good coach and see if you can hire him. I have said it 100 times on this thread but one more i guess wont hurt. Ben Howland Shaka Smart and marshall were on the top tier. Once WSU made the sweet 16 he should have started throwing money at one of the other 2, or both. Timing is everything.

One could also make the argument the reason Texas did not pursue CGM is because they had an idea he might stay.

So...based on that logic, we should have brought in RichRod, and not waited on Saban? See how that analogy doesn't even match the bball situation?

They most certainly did. Though CNS was our first target, things changed aand we went forCRR. When he said no, things changed back. Suffice it to say, if he hadn't said no, CNS wouldn't be here.

You missed what I was saying. Unless we're all misinformed, there wasn't anyone else in play here except CGM until Wednesday. "Doubling down" as you suggest requires CBB to start talks with a "bigger fish"... whereas "doubling down" for CMM meant wait for a few more weeks and try to renew things with CNS.

we did not wait on saban.. we went and got rich rod... Which was the right thing to do. We got lucky, he turned us down.

Also consider we also contacted Steve Spurrier and others of that pedigree. Rich Rod and Saban werent the only ones contacted. CBB and CMM went two way different ways of searching.
