Tennessee's new faculty looks pretty impressive too, but it seems to be filled with shiny gadgets rather than functional equipment.

Your tuition didn't go towards this - if anything, the AD helped keep your tuition lower than it would have been otherwise!

IIRC, the AD is a completely separate (self-funded) financial entity which actually gives proceeds to the University.
