I think without all the changes in college football Saban would have hung around a few more years, conference realignments, nil, portal, expanded playoffs, don't blame him for getting out now.

Why? There is more to life than football which is what Saban wants to go enjoy.
Hes still young enough to do just that. He always said when he felt that he could no longer motivate and "get through" to the kids anymore he would hang it up. With NIL and the quitterhole aka transfer portal and the sense of unearned entitlement that most kids have today, i am not shocked. Saddened. But not shocked. As long as the next coaches name is not Mike something or other i will be happy.

Dose this mean Tide Pride will be cheaper soon.

I just hope this is a real retirement and he doesn’t end up at some other school in a few years because he was bored at home.

Anyway, what an incredible run. I was born in 78 so I grew up hearing the stories about the Bear. I never thought I’d get to experience anything close to those stories. Saban granted me that dream and in my eyes surpassed the Bear. That could be just because I have experienced this run. Roll Tide, Saban. You will forever be the GOAT in my book.
I was born in 71. Just old enough to remember the last few years of Bryant. Feel very fortunate to have been able to watch two of the greatest ever.

Dude, Nick is the program. Without him we are back to the middle of the pack, or lower. Been fun but we are done for a while.
Before the ridiculous probations that began in 1995, Alabama was 3rd all time on both the all time wins list as well as winning percentage.

No, Nick Saban is not “the program.” We will be fine. But he is the greatest of all time, so the pace we’ve been on is inevitably going to fall off. Adding Texas and OU will make the SEC more difficult. 12 team playoff. NIL and Portal. The pace was probably dropping off regardless. But Alabama isn’t turning into South Carolina.

First off, I think you can realistically scratch Ryans off the list. He's got something going in Houston. No need for him to walk away

Second, I don't even know where to begin. I just listened to Roger Hallmark's song Bear. It feels appropriate at this time. The lyrics "thanks for all the memories and the victories we shared. We love you and we'll miss you". I know that's The Bear's song but it fits for this occasion as well. Saban pulled us out of the absolute doldrums. We were dead in the water after runaway Fran, the next head coach who never coached a game because of a trip to Pensacola, followed by our version of Derrick Dooley. He brought us from the ashes to the top of the mountain. I'll be eternally grateful, to say the least. Thank you for everything, Coach

Why does it have to be that way? I mean, we probably won't win Nationals Championships as much as we're used to, but there's no reason we can't still compete for them. As long as we get someobe who is at least familiar with the process, the train can keep on running. Look at Ohio State. It doesn't seem to matter who the coach is there, they're always in the hunt. There's no reason we can't do the same. It'll be fine. We have one of the best hiring ADs in the country.

The game certainly didn’t pass him by, but the underlying culture may have.

Best of luck to the GOAT!
Yes, he was the best of the best. I think the recent changes in college football (NIL and the transfer portal) played a big part in his decision. All of these changes are going to change the college game forever. When a coach puts so much effort into developing a young athlete, then sees him jump ship, it has to be so demoralizing. Not to mention the bidding war to lure the best players. Honestly, I understand why he decided to leave for the good life.

I was saddened when Coach Bryant retired. Today, I was not, so go figure. But best wishes and thank you to Coach and Miss Terry. We are not just losing him to retirement but Miss Terry also. We will eventually overcome. RTR!
