It's not a poor to middle-class thing, I think. By and large, wealthy people do not get (and stay) that way by throwing money away with no return.

I admit to having very little info on how NIL is handled by the schools, and player. Not to mention the folks providing the cash. My question is, aren't contracts involved? If so, why wouldn't a school/entity be able to lock up a payer for 3-4 years If you enter the portal you have violated your contract. This is how the real world work with contract employment/services.
The NIL seems very imbalanced to the player right now. I am not one who thinks scholarship athletes should be paid. But, that ship has sailed as we enter the professional minor league phase of college football.
The real future for us purists is DII and possibly the G5. The future will be rocky as the present NIL is not sustainable.

Well my understanding from others here is that Alabama prefers to even out the NIL across the team to prevent animosity. Where other programs pay a single player a bunch of money and other guys nothing.
I think the powers that be should try something like this. Rather than just asking people to donate.

Yea Alabama does have merch and supposedly 100% of proceeds go to NIL. At least that way you do get something tangible from your "donation." I've thought about ordering from there, but I agree - I won't be "joining" and paying the monthly fee...

Right, I’m good with that set up btw & how I think NIL was intended. Of course there will be others that have created more value for themselves and they are supposed to explore those endorsements themselves when offered not pay for play through the schools. But, unfortunately, this is where we are.

Yeah, this whole discussion is an exercise ise in therapeutic venting. None of this change is happening.
You can also buy merchandise from the collective, if you can't do the subscription (which starts around 18 a month, 5 for students) or you can directly pick a player and buy a jersey, or lank shirt, or other item. Thats actually a great way to say thanks to some of the guys whove stuck this whole thing out.

Your very last question`s a good one. We either don`t have any or they`re awfully good at keeping a low profile.
I`d be surprised if organized crime hasn`t already taken a look at it. 1. Is there any money to be made? 2. If the answer to #1 is "Yes ", is it enough to be worth taking risk ( if indeed there is any )?, and 3. Is there an angle to be played to get in?
Wait wait wait. Hold on. We are now asking students to pay fellow “students†money to play football? Seriously? This crap is out of control. If I was still a student, that would just be an insult to my dignity. I pay all this tuition money, I pay for books, food, dorm, etc and you are going to ask me to also chip in to pay my supposedly fellow students to be students at my school? I’d tell them to get bent.
I like college football and love the Tide, but I’ll be damned if I’m going to stuff dollar bills in some kid’s pocket because he plays football and I want him to pretend he likes me and my school. No other sport operates like this or asks such things of fans. Talk about a fleece job.
