No ESPN or SEC Network on Spectrum (9/11 update: Settled)

I turned on to watch the Florida vs Utah game last night and got a screen that essentially said that Spectrum was negotiating with Disney to show college football on ESPN. This included the SEC Network. I turned TV on this morning and the same disclaimer is on saying Spectrum is still negotiating with Disney and therefore unless Spectrum raises it rates ESPN will not be available to Spectrum customers. Anybody else have this problem?

Thanks guys, if I can figure it out I will give it a try. I assume I will access Youtube TV on my laptop? I do not have an Apple TV setup.

YTTV works on pretty much anything, cell phone, tablet, computer, streaming device, etc.

You can likely plug your laptop into your TV and watch it that way instead of the laptop screen.

Neither side is in a particularly big hurry to resolve this. I've read where it could drag on for the entirety of the college football season. It's just peculiar that "talks broke down" right before kickoff last night 🤔

I wonder what this means for games on ABC. While ABC 33/40 is still available, their college sports broadcasts are all of course, ESPN. So, when the local ABC affiliates run college football games, will they be required to blackout for Spectrum subscribers?

My sister lives in Montgomery. She told me last night about this. She said, according to Spectrum, Disney is raising their rate increase too much. So, they don't know if they'll get to watch the games Saturday.

Fubo is going to charge you from Day 1.

I just subscribed to You Tube TV and am enjoying a 2 month FREE trial. I already had a Google account so signup was fairly easy.

You will also need a streaming device to get this.

Watching SECN's "This Morning" right now......

I've got Direct TV, but I have that Hulu/ESPN/Disney+ bundle too, I think I'm ok for the season. If not, I'll figure out a work around.

Listened to the Press Box this morning with Mike Grace....he said he was watching pregame, turned to Florida-Utah and got that Spectrum message. The fact that they cut it right before kickoff.....that's just a kick in the face.

If you have a smart tv it will be one of your apps and you won't need an additional streaming device. Cool thing is when football season is over i just suspend it until the next football season and don't have to pay for tv I'm not watching.

Fubo gave me a trial initially. (7 days) I only have fubo for the Braves games. it is not great. I preferred hulu or youtubetv. Both gave me a month for fee initially.

If you do not have a streaming device, check your TV: Most are smart TVs these days, check your TVs built in app service, they may have a YTTV app you can install.

If you have an older TV, there are inexpensive streaming devices. This one from Walmart even includes an HDMI cable ($25): Roku LE HD Streaming Media Player with High Speed HDMI ® Cable and Simple Remote - Walmart.com

Get ready folks because this is only going to get worse in the coming years and it will affect streaming services as well. As more and more eyeballs abandon live TV, ad revenue value will continue to decrease. these sports networks have to pay for the ridiculous contracts they have signed with all These leagues somehow so they will demand more and more from cable/sat/streaming services. Which will only cause prices for all these services to shoot up, which will cause even more people to cancel.

Without these contracts with networks, leagues can't pay all these ridiculous multi-million-dollar contracts to athletes. I really think we are steam rolling to a huge bubble busting moment in sports where suddenly leagues can't afford to pay anymore. The scary part is, the savior is probably going to be someone like the Saudis swooping in and owning American sports.

Ultimately, Spectrum will cave. People have more options these days and it is easier than ever to cancel. Folks in the south are not going to miss an entire season of football because these companies are bickering. When the cancelations start to happen, Spectrum will cave quickly. Disney knows this, they have Spectrum by the balls.

Sound about right. Disney is raising their rates on everything. They are about to hike the price on Disney+ for the 3rd time in a year and a half. I read Iger's strategy is to make the ad free streaming platforms so expensive they are unpalatable to people and they move to the cheaper ad supported tiers where Disney actually gets more revenue even though they charge less.
