Not feeling good about the Iron Bowl at all

Those idiots are actually back to saying how they "own" Tuscaloosa. Umm.....we actually lead the series at Bryant Denny now. I know that there were two other games played in Tuscaloosa on the quad in the late 1890's and early 1900's that the barn won. But even still, that makes the record 7-7 in Tuscaloosa. And they haven't won there in a decade and a half. What a bunch of neanderthals

They can play well not saying they can't, what I'm saying if they can't get motivated last week with everything in front of them, then I don't trust them this week to be motivated
I agree, but understanding the motivation of young men is a challenge. Who knows why they did not prepare/did not execute in Norman?
And you are right, they could also mail in the Iron Bowl.
I'm hopeful.

If they actually just mail in the Iron Bowl, then that is downright egregious. Because even in the lowest point of the Shula days when we were completely debilitated by probation and were severely overmatched against the barn, those teams still showed up for the Iron Bowl. Our 2004 team that went 6-6 gave the 2004 undefeated barn team a run for their money. Shoot, even in the game where Brody got mowed down 100 times, we never gave up

And that was with what, 10 injures starters out and starting a third string, walk on QB?

Yes. Whole starting backfield out for the season. We actually shut auburn out in the first half and forced two turnovers. If we could have turned just one of these into a TD, we d have had a double digit lead at halftime

The sad part of NIL/xfer portal is that much of the hatred of rivals is diminished.

"Hired guns" tend to care less. It's just a job.

Hopefully Bama still has enough real Bama players to feel the hate and prepare / fight accordingly.

From your keyboard to God's eyes, my friend.
I am reminded of warfare in early modern Italy. Italians discovered they would rather paint and make little Italians than fight so they hired condottieri (mercs) to fight for them. With predictable results.

I have been a devout fan for over 75 years, and I have almost no interest in this game. Alabama will probably win this game handily. This must be a personal problem because there are still some good things that may happen for the team. I am having problems coming to grips with the things surrounding this team. I do not blame DeBoer. He walked into a strange situation, so he gets the benefit of the doubt.

I think it's well known by now that Auburn starts prepping for Alabama like week 2 of the season. It's their Super Bowl. Look at the absurd talent disparity in 2021 and 2023, games we likely should have lost that came down to overtime or miracle plays.

Then there's the fact that our guys don't have much to play for. If they didn't care enough against OK for a playoff spot, how will they care about Auburn?

Freeze was hired specifically to beat Saban/Alabama, and they seem to be peaking as a team.

Yeah I really, really don't feel good about this.
MOOO!!!

(You register right before the Iron Bowl last year, make a few posts running down Alabama's struggles with Auburn, and show back up with this thread now......and you thought nobody would notice?)

As far as the Iron Bowl, annual reminder:

1) you're gonna hear a lot of "throw out the records" garbage about this game. Given we are 8-3 and Auburn is 5-6, it wouldn't be a TOTAL shock if the Tigers won.
2) no head coach has ever been fired because they lost the Iron Bowl, no matter how many times you hear that nonsense (see below)
3) generally speaking, the team that plays the better game - as always - wins. Depends on if the first half of the Georgia game shows up or the team we saw last week.

AUBURN
Shug Jordan - retired, lost last Iron Bowl
Doug Barfield - was already on a banana peel before losing the 1980 game
Pat Dye - resigned the night before the game due to pending NCAA sanctions
Terry Bowden - actually won his last Iron Bowl
Tommy Tuberville - who even knows exactly what happened but he was gone anyway
Gene Chizik - he was going to be fired anyway in 2012
Gus Malzahn - he wasn't fired for failing to beat Saban, he beat him 3 times as head coach.....
Bryan Harsin - he was gone before the second IB

ALABAMA
Harold "Red" Drew - resigned after a down year
Ears Whitworth - uh, he couldn't beat anyone
Coach Bryant - resigned due to age and health
Ray Perkins - resigned to go to the NFL
Bill Curry - resigned for what he thought was the basketball job at Kentucky
Gene Stallings - beat Auburn in last meeting
Mike DuBose - had already resigned weeks prior to the game
Dennis Franchione - threw the damn game in 2002 on his way out
Mike Shula - would have survived the Auburn loss if he just had a clue
Nick Saban - beat Auburn in last regular season game as coach

I’m going to tune in to watch Bamas first offensive drive. If they resemble the OU game in any shape, fashion or form I’m turning it off. I will not allow them to hold me hostage and witness another Jekyll & Hyde performance this year!
Yeah, we knew immediately in Norman they weren't really into OU. We should know early what sort of day it will be. I'm with you, I'm not watching another game of Milroe running sideways/backwards while our backs are ignored.

The funniest meme I've ever seen of Shula had him in server's uniform, serving a steak at a Shula Steak House... :)

I found this to be strange but we are 0-3 against Auburn when the IB falls on November 30th in the last 25 years (losses in 2002, 2013, 2019).

Boy I hope I’m wrong today 😐
