I know its the wrong forum, but it is the most read and these guys deserve a lot of praise. The Alabama Frozen Tide won it's first SECHC Championship today beating Florida 7-2. This is a club sport so they get very little financial support from the university. Money for the program comes out of the players pockets as well as sponsorships and donations. This team has been through a lot as they have had a player pass away in each of the last 2 seasons. They are the #3 ranked team in the South Region in ACHA Div III and will play in the ACHA Div III National Championship Tournament in New Jersey starting March 14.

I have seen the games and it was a very cool experience. They play at the Pelham civic center. They almost got kicked out months ago since Pelham wanted to take out the rinks. I think they still play there.

Hockey is a great sport, so it's fitting that BAMA won! Looks like they had a great offense~ RTR!

I saw the Frozen Tide play against Central Florida a few weeks back. They jumped out to a 4-0 lead and ended up giving up 5 unanswered to lose 4-5.
UCF's puck handling was really good but they had a hard time putting it in the goal early on.
Grats to the Frozen Tide on the SEC championship!

Obviously it is a long shot, but does anyone think an actual scholarship hockey team would draw much support? If we did start one, we'd probably need several other SEC schools to start a team at the same time so we'd have a league to play in. And converting Foster Auditorium to be hockey ready would be expensive and Title IX would likely force us to start a women's team as well.

But the Alabama name and our warm climate could be a big draw in recruiting.

Having had lived all of my life in Canada, I was weaned on hockey.

And tho my love for and support of Bama football took over my interest in hockey in my late teens [we didn't have cable in our home when I was a kid, so I'd had no exposure whatsoever to Bama / NCAA football; talk about being deprived...] I have to say that this is really cool [no pun intended...]

Mega props to the team!!

I was there also. Did you get there early enough to catch the end of the SoCar. / Barn game?

Most of the SEC schools already have a hockey team.

They all have club teams, but I was talking about starting a varsity sport with scholarships.
