More cars on the roads do not equal revenue or customers, and more cars mean more congestion/slower speeds for everyone.

On the other hand fewer cars means more foot traffic, more customers, more businesses, and more revenue.

We've tacitly known this since the 1960s when interstates were run straight through out city centers and massive numbers of Americans started commuting into the suburbs, destroying our city economic models.

Oh, and serious injuries are WAY down.

And the perception that roads have gotten safer is also borne out by crash data. The number of people who were seriously injured in a car crash decreased citywide, but the improvement was more pronounced in the congestion relief zone.
