I was just thinking, how many 1st quarter snaps has Simpson gotten with the first string over the last two years. I think none or just a handful.
Normally, when he gets in a game, Bama is already up big and it is late in the game.
None that early.

I think he was in the 2nd qtr vs USF last year but I honestly don’t remember the exact point he entered the game.

But the OL was already taking a dive because of Buchner and they continued it when Ty came in so that’s not a fair assessment towards Ty either.

Though he DID lead the team to victory that day in sub optimal conditions.

He may or may not work out.

But like Mac Jones I think Ty has earned an opportunity to be given a shot at the job.

I understand what you are saying. However, when your QB is having a terrible night and we are soundly being beaten, it seem logical to try something different in an effort to save the game. Ty should have been given a chance. The chance might have failed. We will never know. But continuing with no change hasn't worked in three games thus far. I agree that Ty is a throw heavy QB, but the last time I checked, we have running backs to handle that part of the game.
Ty can run too.

You don’t want him to ideally….

But I promise you the other team doesn’t want him running either.

He’s got Manziels running ability.

Whining about the lights during his post game presser, pathetic. OU has lost 3 home games this year and those teams had no problems scoring. How about you take ownership of your pathetic coaching job this week. Your staff failed this team with a lack of preparation and a pitiful gameplan against a bad OU team.
Well, your opinion is fine and good but you gotta have a QB that has the ability to adjust and actually execute the adjustments. If you don't have that, which we don't, you can try all the adjustments in the world and it won't make a squat worth of difference.
You gotta give the staff this season and off season to get the cancer out of the locker room and get his players in the system on both sides of the ball and then it's fair game.

Yes indeed. Two years of it. We look the same. Sooner or later it isn’t them, it’s you. Coaches don’t just “forget” how to coach. I know some like to throw around the word “pathetic” but dang man, what if we called good plays but they weren’t run correctly.

I know the easy statement is take him out but if we did and they feasted on Ty like they were Milroe it may have set us back even more with Ty’s development.

I get the argument that one season isn’t enough the majority of the time but to continue to let a QB struggle in a game he was clearly out of and not make a change then try to justify not making a change reveals the fact he isn’t ready for the big league.

I mean how many games did you have to watch Dubose coach before you knew he was over his head.
I don't think you understand/remember what happened with all that...........Even going back to CNS last season.

Different era of football here - and this is not a “Milroe is the best” post - but man, have we become spoiled by elite QB play at UA.

Here are Brodie Croyle’s 2003 stats (and I’m confident many on this board would say Brodie was a better QB than Milroe).

In 12 games, he completed 182-341 (53%) for 2,303 yards with 16 TDs and 13 INTs. No rushing TDs and a grand total of 7 positive rushing yards.

Through 11 games this season, Milroe is 171-263 (65%) for 2,396 yards, 15 TDs and 9 INTs. He’s added 615 rushing yards and 17 rushing TDs. More passing yards on about 80 fewer attempts, and nearly as many completions as Croyle had for that entire season. Not to mention the rushing production.

The game has evolved and QBs are playing at a higher level in general - Croyle’s 2003 season was considered average at the time and would be considered atrocious by today’s standards. Brodie played on a different team and didn’t have as much raw talent around him - but that 2003 offense had many of the same pieces from the 2002 team that won 10 games and scored a lot of points.

If we are honest, I think most of the angst with Milroe’s play is not that he’s a “bad” QB. It’s that he’s not Tua, or Bryce, or Mac.

I think you can also make the argument that Brodie Croyle would be a Heisman candidate on this team and in this offense, and you probably wouldn’t be wrong.

Just some perspective. We’ve seen plenty of “bad” QB play at the Capstone over the years and Milroe is far from the worst. He’s just not transcendent at the position, which is something we’ve become rather accustomed to. Again, it’s a different era, but it seems like some of you don’t remember Freddie Kitchens.

JMO. I do agree that the team will likely be better off when Milroe leaves and DeBoer gets a guy that is closer to what he wants from the position.

Everyone is blaming Milroe (mostly), but what is he supposed to do when half the opposing team is in his ear within 0.00571 seconds of snapping the ball? Where's the offensive line? Do we even have one?

That's the biggest thing that needs to be corrected.
Maybe if Milroe could actually read defenses and actually run the full offense and audible out of plays and slide protection correctly teams wouldn't be able to just stack the box and cover deep and destroy Milroe and the line. These teams are bringing more than we can block a lot of times because Milroe is a one read/one receiver kind of qb, for the most part, and these defenses know it. AU is gonna do the same next Saturday because our qb can't adjust.

It’s on the coach who let him continue to mess up. I really wanted to use more salty language there.
LANK......you want to blame somebody? Start with CNS because he caved in last season.
There was a lot of politics/money and such involved.
There's no one else to put in if you want to field an offensive line and a couple of receivers and some upper class defensive guys.
So what do you do at this point?

Let's take a long stroll down memory lane and look at the starters (not including those who only started a game or two due to injuries or whatever):

Bryce Young.
mac Jones.
Tua.
Hurts
Coker,
Sims,
AJ,
Gmac,
Jp Wilson,
Croyle
Pennington,
Watts,
Zow
Phillips (replaced by Zow after 4gms)
Tucker (partial year)
Kitchens
Burgdorf
Barker
Woodson
Hollingsworth
Smith

and that's as far back as I have direct memory of.

out of all those, who would you rate behind Milroe?

probably Watts who was only playing because Zow kept getting hurt, but at least Watts was decisive running the option and made the right keep/give decision most of the time, so maybe not.

Phillips - he got beat out.

Pennington? he also only played due to injuries then quit to play baseball

Burgdorf? Only playing significant time due to injury

Kitchens - maybe/probably.

Woodson - maybe/probably.

The rest: All ahead of JM I think. That's not to say they all have as strong of an arm, or could run anywhere close to as fast, but they'd at least read the field, make audibles at the line, know the box count, and mostly (no one is ever 100%) get us to the right play and make the right decisions on the field. Even Kitchens and Woodson were probably ahead of JM in stuff pre-snap; they just struggled with what happened after that

That was just it. OU was keying so much on QB run and QB counter that Haynes and Jam were getting 4+ yards straight up the gut.

Haynes and Jam should take Nick Sheridan to court and sue him for “abandonment”.
Or take Lank to court for pulling the ball when he should have been handing it off.........

I’ve had way too much time to think about the abysmal showing Saturday night. This team is like someone with ADHD. Consistency inconsistent.

I’m about to come to conclusion that this coaching staff is arrogant and intellectually lazy. It appears on both sides of the ball the focus is on “what Bama will do and force the other team to respond”. Doesn’t appear there is much “skull work” like self scouting or having a couple of our bazillion analysts try to anticipate what the opponent will do based on our tendencies or what other teams had success doing against us. I’m mean after getting skull drug by Vandy on the ground, was there no post mortem done to file away to say “if we face this again, this is what do”? Saturday night by the second quarter, many of us clearly recognized this was the Vandy game plan offensively. And those getting paid big dollars to make adjustments can’t? I don’t want to hear “personnel” issues. That OU team was a sideline orthopedic clinic.

Yep players make plays. But this staff is responsible for putting them in the position to do so. And they failed miserably.
