Bama Game Thread: Official PostGame Thread - Bama @ AU...

Our “reward” is a rematch against the toughest team on our schedule.

Meanwhile, teams who didn’t qualify to “win their conference” are already in the playoff as one-loss teams and we have to run the risk of expecting a group of voters who have screwed us this year at every turn to apply their “don’t punish your team for success” rule they used last year.

This method of determining national champion is something I never dreamed would’ve been possible with the playoff: more monumentally stupid, inconsistent, and full of more surprises in a baby‘s diaper than the 1966 poll vote.

Just look at the route Oregon got last year to the national championship is the number one overall seed. Meanwhile, two loss Ohio State and NIU victim Notre Dame got the easiest.

And to be honest with you, it’s not really fair to Georgia either.
Then sankey sold the conference down the road by agreeing to go to 9 conference games while everyone else in these weak conferences are laughing. If we lose and don’t get a playoff spot, disband the damn SEC Championship Game.

Were they scintillating against a pathetic GT D? But I agree they had looked good for the last few till them. AU totally dominated them until the refs robbed them just before half. UGA accepted the reprieve and snuck away with their win.

I was at the Tech/UGA game yesterday. The way we are feeling about our chances next weekend mirror what the UGA fans are feeling. Tech has a terrible D and UGA scored 16 points. Win next weekend and we get a bye, worst case, we get a home game against a G5 team.

yeah, georgia just won a sloppy, unininspiring game against an over-matched rival by 7 points. just like us.

our d is playing much better now. hopefully ty can give us a good performance again

Worry:
Tonight's post game assessment of top 12 teams by ESPN sages( see link)- many do not include Bama. Looks like they have to win the SEC championship to make playoffs.

Because they are giving the Big 12 two teams. Which means they are giving BYU a bid, win or lose in the Big 12 title game.

As always, I like to wait until the next day to share my thoughts on the game but hey! Why not go ahead and share my thoughts on this game now.

Offense: It was not pretty tonight. if I had to assign blame game, I would put 70 percent on Grubb, and 20 percent on Simpson and 10 percent on WRs. Grubb is very good OC and a play caller, but there's a difference between him and Sark, Daboll and Kiffin. He's not on their level just yet. One thing he does have is the "balls" to go for it on 4th downs. He's one of the best at that. Grubb's weakness is that he has no rhythm as a play caller. There is no reason for you to call a reverse play when the running game was working. "Take 2 steps forward, and 1 big step backward." That's the theme with the offense for Grubb. I have no doubt Grubb will get better in off season and will come back better than ever before.

Ty Simpson- He's inconsistent for some reason. His decision-making is baffling at time. Why would you roll out of the pocket into Auburn defense? Just step up and make the throw or run. I'm glad he realized that he can run if nothing is there. The play is there. Ty has to be more consistent. I don't know if we'll see that from him going forward. He's not 100 percent healthy. Ryan Williams isn't healthy. Brailsford isn't healthy. Miller hasn't been healthy for a while until tonight.

Speaking of Miller: Super proud of him! He found his game tonight.

Defense- Brown and Lee balled out tonight. I really hate soft coverage at times, but hey can't complain. On the last TD drive by Auburn, It was busted assignment by a safety. Other than that... I think Defense did great job tonight.

On to the next one!

From sankey’s persoective, the SEC gets 4 teams in at a minimum and probably 5. Meanwhile, the Big 10 will get 3 max. I don’t think he will regret anything this year.

Grubb's worst game of the season. I feel he lacks balance at times. We come out with no intention of running the ball but we end having a few good run plays and then boom that's his go-to. He's leaned too heavily on the pass game till this point and the minute we found success in the run we leaned too heavily on it.

We got enough to win it though. UGA look quite beatable and Kirby has a Bama problem. I feel good about hosting a home playoff game.

He needs to get more $ from ESPN-ABC. More inventory to put on the tube, means more $. SEC teams are subject to more difficult schedules by doing this. Take a look at Indiana “I just win. Google me’s” schedule this year. They’re about to be smoked again.

I watched DeBoer and Grubb run those triple reverse throwback flea flicker halfback option Philly special plays in Washington with precision and execution. At Bama, those plays are destroyed in the first leg of all that. I don’t know if it’s the athletes in this conference or what, but they need to stop all that.
There's too much speed in the SEC for plays that take long to develop. I like misdirection, but the play better resolve within 3 to 4 seconds.

The win gives us a chance. All we needed was a chance. Time to figure out the problems with the passing game (besides Ty's physical ailments), why we go away from what is working (whether passing or running) for long stretches, why we throw 40 yd passes on 3rd & short, and why our 2nd halves are lackluster. BUT, we have a chance!
