Bama Game Thread: Official PostGame Thread - Bama vs. LSU...

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

Just thinking back at LSU vs Alabama, this one is similar to many of the other games even with CNS's great NC teams. We all recall McCarron to Yeldon! From my perspective the LSU D was tremendously talented with a cornerback rated at the top in the country. It appeared to me that they had more athletes than the Bama offense could handle effectively.

It is a great lesson in preparing for Oklahoma!
I largely agree, same thing that makes me worried about the auburn game especially with them figuring some things out on offense yesterday. However, these guys fired their coach 2 weeks ago. Same as auburn. Our veteran group of coaches should be able to put together a better game plan against a bunch of temps. Of course I suppose the same could be said for Vanderbilt yesterday so who really knows lol

After game Simpson said (paraphrasing) the lack rushing production is mental. I think he’s probably right. If so, that’s a coaching task to improve that. We know the guys Bama lines up against are not “better.” Of course a guy will beat you sometimes, but unless it’s the occasional superstar, that should be the exception. RTR
I dont understand why we didn't switch to throwing shorter more intermediate passes when LSU started getting all that pressure. There didn't seem to be any adjustment. Like we were going to be stubborn in contiuing the long developing pass plays.
Both of the posts are the most reasonable take I've seen on the board.

I was looking at LSU defense throughout the game and I kept asking why we couldn't switch to short passing game. The area in short game was there all game long. I just don't understand though.

The running game, I definitely agree because go back and watch the replay and you'll notice something. OL are still double teaming instead of taking up one on one blocking. RBs aren't seeing the hole.. Hill was seeing hole and was fighting for it.

IMO, Hill should start with Miller coming in once in a while.

Finding ways to win has become the signature stamp on this year's Tide Team. Gone are the dominant performances week in and week out but it is a new era. We have some tough games ahead so we will need to keep that winning mentality to get us to where we need to be. So there are sure to be more ugly games ahead and I will take them all day long if we can better each opponent by at least 1 point. If you are a Tidefan, you have to like being undefeated at this point in the season but it is certainly not for the faint of heart. Next week is going to be another dogfight and the barn game in west georgia looks to be a very tough game in voodoo stadium. Every game after that is going to be a nail biter. So do your breathing exercises, meditate or do some yoga or something because the games coming down the stretch are going to be as tough on us fans as they are for the boys on the field.

That was a dumb and dangerous play. He had already given up on the run and was sliding. This could have seriously injury Nussmeier (and it got LSU out of a 3rd and 11 play).
Bama played a much cleaner game, other than this play.
he wasn’t sliding, he tried to duck under Renauds outstretched arms, head first. Dangerous, unintentional facemask.
But, #5 should have gotten a penalty on a late hit out of bounds early in the game when he threw down an LSU player, 3 yards out of bounds

Talking to a Washington Husky fan, this has been CKD’s M.O. while he was there. When DeBoer was hired at Bama, he told me to be prepared to get a lead and sweat out the final minutes of every game. No killer instinct. I think it’s more a product of no run game, myself. But he was pretty much spot on.

If I recall correctly I believe Grubb mentioned in an interview a few weeks ago talking about a layered passing game and the “lack of deep” throws that he would like to see more. Maybe Ty is holding longer to allow those to develop? If so, given our schizophrenic Oline play, that is recipe for failure.

Then again I’m old and I could be “misremembering” that comment.
Then again, maybe we couldn't get any separation down field.

I we averaged 118 going into last night. We rushed for 56 last night. I think I saw we drop to like 124 in rushing offense out of 136.

Rushing for 150 average should be our goal.
I don’t disagree, it’s just weird that we get 100 yards and it feels like -30 for some reason.

I had the same thought near the end of the game. Passing games are great for running up scores, when they're working. However, there comes a time when you need to run the clock. You just can't do that with a primarily passing game. Late in the game, when you're ahead, the other team knows damned well that you're not going to throw long and risk a pick six, so they crowd the box and blitz you to death. Hot routes were there all during the latter part of the game. Somebody just needs to remind Grubb...

There were two plays I came nearly unglued on Grubb last night and they were the wildcat 4th down play and that double pass on their 20. Everyone gave Kiffin hell for 3 years because they wouldn’t let the Ohio St game ever go despite the mountain of evidence that he is one of the greatest offensive minds to ever come through Alabama, but good god Grubb calls some of the most puzzling “gadget” plays that even Stevie wonder can see coming a mile away in the most inoppurtune times.

I’m starting to believe Sheridan wasn’t near as bad as a lot of Bama fans believed. It’s more that he was tasked in finding points with a quarterback that couldn’t read a defense to save his life. Grubb has one of the best receiver groups in the country with one of the best quarterbacks. Yet he spends alot of time with runs that we can’t do and weird gadget plays that have very little reward with a high risk involved.

To the folks that were there, did we have open recievers on the night? LSU did a pretty good job it looked like man to man
Seemed like every time when completed a pass, we had multiple folks open. What I saw was too many drop passes and/or poor throws by Ty. On our running game, we don’t have backs with good vision and explosion through the crease. You don’t need huge hole, just be able to recognize it. Our blocking schemes are solid but we don’t execute. All these arm chair coaches never mention that do they? It’s not always the “play calling” but it’s always the execution.
If not, then why call any play? When we execute we win.

At the risk of being banned I would say that Ty had a bad game...he was really amped up and kept over throwing receivers. It's like he wanted to win so bad that he kept getting in his own way. Relax and let the game come to you...

So, the SEC is the closest thing to being in the NFL without being in the NFL. Grubb got dumped from the NFL because he didnt or could not emphasize the running game enough.

These coaches have never seen anything like the SEC in their coaching careers. Hopefully, they are evolving their own philosophies...

Asking my Metallica shirt to work twice in one day might have been asking too much.

Well DeBoer's black hoodie and my Metallica shirt are working. I will for sure be wearing it for the oklahoma game. I am genuinely afraid to wear it for the basketball game against Purdue. Don't want the hoops team to steal all the luck.
