This is exactly how I took his “soak up the moment” comment after the loss yesterday. Either JM is completely tone deaf or narcissistic or a combination of both.

There are many comments over time about what a great guy and representative of the university. I no longer buy any of the academic BS put out about college football players. There is such incongruity between my experience as a student and these players who are full time players while receiving advanced degrees! I tend to believe that Milroe is one of the greatest politicians to ever be involved with Alabama football.

Well, think again. If some of the key players are financially tied to him. If it cost them money when Milroe was benched...

I get it and I believe the whole scheme. But, idk, even if a few other players quit, what is really the loss. I think losing control of the team as a coach is a massive intangible that is hard if not impossible to recover from. And if these players really cared more about their (surely diminishing, with the level of play) LANK payouts than being on a winning football team, good riddance imo. Can we really be sure there would still be a mutiny by others after it became painfully obvious in the Tenn game that Milroe didn’t have it?

I also acknowledge that I am saying this from my couch and not the dude actually charged with the decisions. But I have some personal scar tissue over this in my personal career- I had a subordinate who I believed was toxic and causing more harm than good. I was having to rotate people through his section somewhat constantly because he was burning them out. I wanted to get rid of him but my superiors preferred that I try to “develop” him. I have regretted that ever since, I don’t even want to think about the number of other promising careers he potentially ended by convincing them to leave and do something else with their lives. After I moved on to a different job I met one of my other subordinates and asked him how it was going- the toxic dude was still doing the same toxic behaviors burning people out and belittling them while saying the right things to the superiors. His career should have been ended. So I get it but I think people like that need to be cut out- better to deal with those short term consequences than the long term problems letting it happen will create.

The only thing that comes close is the lead up to the 2000 season.

I’m not totally sold on that . They talk in meetings, at least I hope they do, about how to block when things break down , same Way they talk about how receivers run on scramble drills. With Jalen holding the ball, not stepping up and helter skelter scramble style, the OLine is lost on what exactly they should do. The strength of the OLine was the interior, so you would think they would push Out and around to form th pocket, but Jalen likes to back pedal instead of stepping up . Tackles are taught to use a speed rushers momentum to force him past the QB. Jalen’s back pedaling puts him in the path of edge rushers.

I can see that.........but there hasn't been alot of improvement in certain facets of the game. Still, I agree that Milroe's antics have caused alot of confusion and issues. And he does what he wants with no correction. If he gets drafted, its going to be interesting to see if he pouts when benched

That conflict early in 23 (like not long after the 22 season was over) is what caused a lot of this nonsense. The time to stop it was then, but that didn't happen.

I get that, and yet the world is full of examples of ill-advised communication that unmasked the truth. Hugh Freeze wasn’t pantsed at Ole Miss because he had a written agreement with a hooker. Peter Strzok wasn’t performing official FBI duties. People can’t help leaving discoverable digital trails…

That does not mean that they're subject to FOI. Our records act is weak. I remember years ago, our supreme court held that the board minutes of UNA weren't subject to the Act. I think it was strengthened some in this last session, but I haven't had a chance to look at it yet. I'm afraid FOI's just wishful thinking...

It’s difficult to fathom really.

I worked 30 hrs a week part time during my Junior and Senior years and maintained a 3.98 GPA.

I studied my you know what off and basically had no free time/no social life during that time.

How today’s athletes graduate in 3 years with high GPAs and Football responsibilities and have social lives is an enigma to me.

I know they have specialized tutors etc but still it doesn’t add up most of the time.

Part of it was Saban's extreme distaste for the whole NIL concept, despite lip service to the fairness. That kept the University distant from the whole situation, but it also risked someone stepping in to fill the vacuum...

Maye was one of them for sure. We had someone else in that class also on the hook, I can't recall who. It was always going to be really hard to get a top level QB in that class since we got Young the year before, and everyone knew they'd be sitting behind him until he left for the NFL.

He had an extreme dislike for the wild west NIL world, but I believe that he was legitimately happy for the players ability to earn legitimate NIL pay. He wanted to do it the right way, but quickly saw that he would not be able to do so.

If anyone can't see that he is all about him then I don't know what to tell ya. If you are bamboozled by his outward"love for Bama" or believe what comes out of his mouth, I can't help ya. I have always said a person should be judged by his actions and not his words.
