Re: I am the only one for doesn't believe Joe Pa is an outstanding coach.

My reference was to the record. I have a good friend and alum/season ticket holder at PSU. Said the rumor for years was that they agreed to keep JoPa as HC so he could get the record. There were already rumors that he might retire after this season which happens to be the same season he would break the record. If you noticed during the game with UA when they had the camera on him he was not wearing headphones. Basically just sits there and gets called HC and it helps I guess with recruiting. Alot of PSU fans were happy the day he broke the record because most felt it would mean that he would announce his retirement at the end of the season. The only other concern they had at that point was trying to get his son because most fans felt he was shoving his into the HC position when he left.

So if FSU would have gotten rid of Bowden earlier JoPa would have broken the record a few years back and he would have already retired as most PSU fan believed. Still would have been a part of this.

Apparently Paterno was after Amos Alonzo Stagg's total games coached record also. As I said I believe that Paterno wanted to drop dead on the PSU sidelines. I don't believe Bobby Bowden had one bit of impact on Paterno.

Re: Former Penn St. DC Jerry Sandusky arrested for 40 counts of sexual assaults of mi

That has to be the sickest most incredible story i have ever read. I just cringe at what happened. And i tell you if he truly did these things, he should be convicted to the fullest extent of the law and every person that didn't tell or covered it up should go down too. I have a son about the age of the boys were when they were abused and I gotta tell ya the parent instinct in me says let the parents loose on him!!! I just can't fathom that. But i tell ya i would hope someone would intervene on my sons behalf and stop it. not just go make a report to someone!! What in the world? I know im not in his position but dont you try to stop it and help the child if you see that going on?:eek2:

Many people in this thread absolutely agree with you, and have said so, including myself.

Re: I am the only one for doesn't believe Joe Pa is an outstanding coach.

One day in the future, the trivia question will be asked, who was the last team to beat Joe Paterno?

Re: Penn State Officials Reportedly Planning Paterno's Exit

It's important to understand that pedophilia and homosexuality have nothing to do with each other. Pedophilia isn't about being sexually attracted to a particular gender; it's about being attracted to a certain age of child. Most pedophiles don't have a solid adult sexual orientation, either homosexual or heterosexual. Those that do have adult sexual relations are actually more often to be bisexual rather then homosexual, but the most important thing is that their adult sexual relations are stunted, non-psychologically intimate, and never something they see as fulfilling in any way other than to allow them to hide their pedophilia better.

Pedophiles generally belong in one of two groups: Those that engage exclusively in sexual contact with children, often preferring one gender over the other, and those that engage in adult sexual relationships and intermittently abuse children (almost in a binge type pattern: abuse for a number of victims or over a period of time, then abstaining for varying lengths of time before relapsing back into the pedophilia).

None of this has anything to do with normal, adult, sexual orientation as most of us understand and define it. This has everything to do with a deep-seated sexual perversion that is untreatable, abhorrent, and all about power over, and obtaining sexual gratification from, a typically pre-pubescent child.

Always like your clinical analysis!

Thank you Staci for making the point I was attempting to make without much success. Thank you also for answering some questions I never thought I would have and wish I didn't have. There is no understanding this, but your professional point of view is very helpful. What makes someone like this become so cavalier in these acts? It seems he was being very open taking the boys to open locker rooms instead of the dungeon you would imagine someone would do this type of thing in so no one could catch them. Is it from not being caught or from continually getting away with it or what?

Re: Former Penn St. DC Jerry Sandusky arrested for numerous sexual assaults of minors

I don't think the NCAA could really do anything. What happened at Penn St. did not violate one NCAA rule. Dealing with federal, state, and local crimes have always been up to the individual institutions...unless current or former players got some benefits (which clearly isn't the case here).

Here is an angle that Finebaum threw out today, maybe McQueary has his coaching position because of what he did see??? Just thought I would throw that out there.

Joe Paterno has reached out to a prominent Washington criminal defense lawyer to represent him in the Penn State sex abuse case, a source close to the case told NBC News.

J. Sedgwick Sollers, who once represented President George H.W. Bush in the Iran-Contra affair, was contacted by Paterno's advisers on Thursday. But Sollers has not yet met with Paterno, and a formal retainer agreement has not been signed.

Re: PSU Coach Joe Paterno fired!

This probably why Paterno is lawyering up. There are also bound to be a few civil lawsuits.

Federal officials will investigate whether Penn State officials violated federal law by failing to report alleged sexual abuse by the school's former football defense coordinator Jerry Sandusky.

Justin Hamilton, a spokesman for Education Secretary Arne Duncan, confirmed to NBC News that the department was launching a probe into whether there were possible violations of a federal law called the Clery Act. It requires colleges and universities to publish and distribute information about criminal offenses -- including sex offenses -- that are reported to school authorities.

Penn State officials were formally notified of the investigation in a letter received Wednesday, officials said.

"If these allegations of sexual abuse are true then this is a horrible tragedy for those young boys," Duncan said in a statement. "If it turns out that some people at the school knew of the abuse and did nothing or covered it up, that makes it even worse. Schools and school officials have a legal and moral responsibility to protect children and young people from violence and abuse."

Cindy I've been saying this from the moment the story hit. All the talk of legacy, chain of command, etc... is pure after fact. Why did this man not stop this? That is the question I would really like to see him faced with.

The part that just breaks my heart is the fact that while this child was being sodomized he saw someone walk in. He had to have thought at that moment the horror he was experiencing was about to stop. Someone was about to come to his rescue and stop this monster from hurting him any further. He was about to get away and the silence of what he was going through was about to be broken. Then imagine what he must have felt as he saw the potential savior turn and walk away without stopping the attack. You would have to feel at that moment that your life was completely worthless for someone not to help you. The thought of that absolutely breaks my heart and brings tears to my eyes.

To be clear, no lawyer has been retained. Not sure where that report originated.

Scott Paterno is claiming there has been no lawyer hired. Somebody is either lying, or um, doesn't know he's been fired yet!
Scott Paterno is a former lawyer, correct? He's probably making a last ditch effort to daddy to let him be his lawyer.

BTW -
With so many threats on McQuearey, Penn State has decided that he will not be coaching at Saturday's game
That is according to FOX Sports.com reporter Greg Couch.

Link.

The second paragraph quoted in the post says that the lawyer has not been retained just contacted.
