Game Thread: Ole Miss - Auburn

A lot of tough talk that I'm worrying we can't back up. They are an excellent team, and we have been inconsistent. Nothing sickens me more than watching these scum bags play well. I hate off weeks, as a fan.

Auburn needs to worry about being able to back up the "tough talk" cause, unlike Alabama, they have nobody that has proven they've earn the right to carry the swagger.

auburn is absolutely legit.

I don't.

Hate to say it, but this is Aubarn's year.

No, it's not Cheez-it and no it's not Jacobs either, because Cheez-it was not a genius hire, the way people are making it out to be.

It's the combination of Malzahn and Newton.

You can say in terms of coaching that it's not Malzahn, but his track record speaks for itself, and notice how the guy gets more publicity than Cheez-it does. I recall hearing the commentators at one point in the game tonight say, "Malzahn's team started off at 5-0 last year, before hitting a 3 game skid".

If Cheez-it was smart, he would've hired Malzahn to be his OC at Iowa State... :biggrin2:

Be patient because as soon as Malzahn goes, so does Cheez-it and Aubarn's short-lived success.

This is what too few people are talking about. Old Miss just scored 31 on them. Cam doesn't play defense. Hardly anyone does. I'm not an idiot who thinks they have no chance to beat us but I think we can outscore them 8-9 times out of 10.... Posted via Mobile Device

Hope you're right, but I haven't seen anything that leads me to this conclusion.

Ole Miss scored 10 on us and 31 on them. Trouble is, we scored 23 on Ole Miss and Auburn scored 51 on 'em. Lessee... Ole Miss played us in our stadium after their bye week; we were playing our 7th game without a break. Auburn played Ole Miss in Oxford; this was Auburn's 9th game without a bye week.

This Auburn offense reminds me of Texas against USC about three or four years ago.

In other words, it is good. Real good.

It isn't as one-dimensional as I had thought, either. But it still depends entirely upon the central figure at QB, like Texas did.

I frankly don't know how you stop this offense. I don't think you do stop it. As long as this phenom, Cam Newton, is doing his thing, and they have two or three other offensive threats to go with him, this is a highly potent offense. An offense like this comes along, say, once in several years. I don't remember any SEC offense remotely like it, especially since Spurrier's heyday at Florida. This is probably a better offense than Spurrier had.

Newton is a much, much better runner than Tebow, his passes are more accurate than Tebow's, and his arm is stronger.

I saw Newton get hit once yesterday. By that, I mean a decent lick. I wonder how many times this year he's really been hit. The reason is obvious. His shiftiness, ability to sidestep. He avoids getting hit.

Somebody has asked on another thread if defense indeed wins championships. Well, Spurrier proved that offense can win championships -- except that he won only one national championship. Bryant won six emphasizing defense, and Saban has won two, already.

The only way this Auburn team is going to be beaten is by a team that plays good defense. If nobody tackles this guy Newton before February, Auburn will have won a national championship.

The key to a great offense is the quarterback. If nobody is able to disrupt him, upset his rhythm, even really to hit him, then this Newton guy is going to grin his way to a national championship.

He is the engine that's running that team. Yes, they have other cogs in it. But as long as he's perking along as he is, I don't see anybody beating them.

Would it be too cheeky of me to ask, do you get my drift? I don't mean to play dirty against him. But I don't see how you beat a guy like this without showing him what it means to get hit once in a while.

If you've ever had the bottom of your rib cage curled upward by a good solid hit from a defensive tackle, you know what I am talking about. It's not something you forget.

Hal, I made the exact same comments in comparing Newton and Tebow and got blasted on here, so expect some flames. I too thought AU was one dimensional, but they are an excellent offensive machine and yes the QB is important, but their OL knocks people off the line and their WRs are underrated.
Their weakness is their secondary, but you got to have time to throw down field and from what I have seen that is our glaring weakness. But the game has to be played on the field.

I think the best way to defend The Barn's offense, is for our offense to have long drawn out offensive drives, that ends with scores of some type every-time..I honestly don't think we'll be able to stop their offense completely..But they can't score if we have the ball 5, 6, 7 minutes at a time..You have to get them out of their fast tempo on offense to beat them..JMO

I have no idea how their "toilet paper" rolling tradition started.. As you say..Barners are simple, silly people..
They make fun of our rolls of toilet paper on a Tide wash det box but it is ok for them to waste a couple thousand rolls of toilet paper after a win against a 3 win Ole Miss team.

Ole Miss was the home team correct? Then why did they wear white for this game?

That wasn't a white jersey, it was gray. Ole Miss wore special gray jerseys to honor the 50th anniversary of the school's 1960 national championship team.

It is believed that was the first time they have worn a jersey that was not red, blue or white.

When the Rebs first walked into the locker room after their walk through The Grove, the red jerseys were laying on their pads. When they came in after pregame warmups, the gray jerseys were in their lockers! There must have been some suspicions though, if they saw Auburn wearing BLUE.:rolleye2:

The hype only worked for about a quarter, though.:frown:

"Over the past year, he has struggled with Newnan officials about the condition of his church. The city has threatened to demolish it because it did not comply with building codes. Last week, a local newspaper, The Times-Herald, reported that the church had completed its work and was in compliance."

"According to ESPN.com, the NCAA contacted Cecil Newton about a month ago, requesting financial documents. He told the news outlet that he submitted bank statements and other records related to the church. Newton also owns a construction company, according to news reports."

Calls to Greengross and Cecil Newton went unreturned.
