Ominous Signs Ahead

Here goes my two cents:

I have supported this coaching staff and been excited about the changes this year. I knew there would be growing pains. I expected a few losses. However, with a full season now to review, I do not feel good about the new regime. I know that he has recruited well, but I do not like what I have seen on the field from Coach DeBoer. I am getting STRONG DuBose/Shula vibes from this guy. A reluctance to make a change when one is needed, confused looks on the sidelines on negative play after negative play, undisciplined play from players, with no reaction.

For those fans stating we need to run the ball just stop. This offensive line has been horrible for at least two seasons. The run game simply isn’t there consistently. Our only chance was the passing game, and we have a QB that is scrambling under pressure almost every play. When he did have time, he was indecisive and unable to make reads. I truly hope that was his last game. I appreciate what Milroe accomplished, but it is time to tear everything down and rebuild.

Lastly, these coordinators are not the answer. Womack held his own today, but this scheme will not work at Alabama. Sheridan is woefully inadequate. On the first drive of the game, Bama moved to midfield on the PASSING game. What did we then do? Two straight running plays for zero yards and a stalled drive. At a time when most premier programs have ex-NFL coaches at the coordinator positions, or at least senior college level coordinators, Bama is severely lacking in this department. Ability to play chess and not checkers in the booth is required. Sheridan was lost all year. He actually made a good call on the screen at the end of the game, and never went back to it despite the fact that Michigan continued to send max pressure. I hope this staff can turn it around, but, unfortunately, I feel it is going to get a lot worse before it gets better. If someone in the know can give me evidence to the contrary—I need it! We all need to hear something positive at this time if anyone can please share it.

You’re nuts to criticise the DC.The defense was bettrr than weve had in a while. Constantly covering for an offence turning the ball over either on 3-outs or picks / fumbles. Im worried Womack will get plucked away.

OC OL QB horrible. Gotta get rid of OC.

I was at game today. If i were Simpson Id xfer. How can you watch that and not get a shot and be ok with it.

Yeah, not criticizing the D for today, but critiquing the whole season, I don’t think Womack’s D will work. Sheridan is horrible.

Wommack has made me feel a lot better as the year has gone on. His d won’t work without a disruptive d line and we still have a room full of block eaters. With the exception of the guy from a&m whose name is escaping me. If he can get a d line and lb core that suits the philosophy I think he can thrive or at least be competent.

Sheridan was fired from Indiana for a reason I fear and from this seasons body of work he’s not the answer but I’d like to hold onto him as what he was at Washington. I think grub and the oline coach that went with him were the secret sauce and we might have to hope our HC can develop coaches as well as players bc he doesn’t seem to be the kindve guy to give people the hook. I’ll confess I watched a few Seahawks games this year hoping for the worst so we could snag them back

Martindale ate Sheridan's lunch today and made him like it. That said, I think this year's offense was super-stripped down and basic to accommodate Milroe. Sheridan wasn't the first choice for OC, and based on this year's results perhaps he should go, or change to TE coach (he did well there!) and assistant HC or something. However, the promise of an expanded playbook, a QB that might be able to run it, and some changes on the OL (RT, anyone?) might make KD consider keeping him for another year.

Wommack's D really improved as a unit all year even with injuries to Sabb, Q Robinson and Lawson and D Smith's transfer. I go back and forth on Freddie Roach.

Whoever runs special teams should be fired already. From 2 #2's at Vandy to one bad decision after another in the return game (Adams' injury hurt there), ST has been suspect.

I take offense to the premise that this Oline is horrible. If any one of them jumps in the portal, teams would line up to sign them. And I don’t put it in the Oline coach either. CKD had a vision for the line, then changed mid stream. His recruiting changed as well The kids we signed are destined to be 320+ before they leave, even Carroll. Remeber, a large faction of the fanbase wanted Seth gone( I didn’t) , he goes to OSU and wins the Remington.
We need to choose a path and see it through As far as offensive philosophy goes.

I had some reservations about Womack a few games in and there are still a couple of things I don't really like (that rarely seem to work well), but the defense got better and better as the season went on and I think he's earned some optimism.
Bad vandy game and 2nd half vs Georgia. Otherwise pretty dominant

they gave up 6 pts today and lost. OU game similar. Ridiculous

edit- UT game as well
I'm only putting 3 on the defense. all the other points were from turnovers or the short field from the sack on 4th down - that one is on the offense also.

Our o line would’ve been good this year with a slimmed down healthy Roberts, a competent rt, and a healthy slimmed down proctor. We shouldn’t have to shy away from an entire side of the field every time there’s a speed rusher. Jury is out on the oline coach but the results outside our center and lg are subpar and would hinder any offense

The defensive effort was good today, but make no mistake, this was a depleted Michigan team that Bama was heavily favored over. Orji was put in, and what was he, 2nd or 3rd string?

Not sure you can blame the OC when there was countless plays he called with guys running wide open in the middle of the field. I would have tried to run more but they were stacking the box pretty well and then playing safeties over the top to take away the deep ball. Sheridan was calling crossing routes 15 yard down field which is the right play call but the quarterback needs to throw it there. The play calling was fine if Milroe see it and throws the ball. Then they either have to slide linebackers back some so you can run or move safeties up and that opens the deep ball. He just doesn’t see the middle of the field well and Michigan exploited it.

I actually think that this defense was statistically better than any since about 2017.
I was very critical of the defense (particularly 3rd and 4th down) early in the season. However, this defense did get significantly better at getting off the field as season progressed.

I chalk the early issues with them getting comfortable with a different scheme under Womack. The defense played well enough to win versus Oklahoma, Tennessee and Michigan today.
