OU (playoff) wrap-up: Alabama flips November’s script, and the result came up Roses

by Jess Nicholas, TideFans.com Editor-In-Chief

For about 24 minutes of game-clock time Friday night in Norman, Okla., it appeared that Alabama was well in danger of repeating its egg-laying performance of Dec. 6 in Atlanta against the Georgia Bulldogs, and the crowing was already coming in loudly on social media from pundits who never wanted Alabama to be making this trip to Norman to begin with.

Then, Alabama scored a touchdown on a gutsy 4th-down playcall, blocked a punt on Oklahoma’s ensuing possession, and polished off the first half with a pick-six from CB Zabien Brown, the second game of the year Brown has turned on its head with an interception just before halftime.

Insighful write-up, and a joy to read. Thanks Jess.

I’m no QB coach, but I don’t see how Mateer has a future as a QB. When throwing, his loading phase is extended as he takes the ball away on a long, low loop - reminiscent of Tim Tebow - which gives blindside rushers an opportunity to strip it; and I can’t recall a single release from more than about a three-quarters position. Why he doesn’t have more passes blocked and intercepted because of how low they are at the point of release is surprising to me…

I seem to remember the last time we headed into a bowl game against the #1 ranked team with a Heisman winning QB that nobody thought Bama could win.

He runs hard (which I appreciate) but has vision worse than TR and its worsened by tentativeness to hit the hole that’s there.

Right now Daniel Hill should be RB1 no question.
I agree, but Jam still appears to be the better pass blocker and maybe catching RB.

I still don't know how much of his struggles have been him (playing or injury) and the Oline. I remember him breaking a few b/c I was surprised. Daniel has been the better runner b/c he's more downhill. Does that style mesh better with the Oline? I have no idea, I'm not that smart in that area.
