I would hope the appeals court reverses this but for a government to even allow this to be a law is insane.

Look what's going on in Indonesia which has traditionally been a secular government/Islam dominant religion. Now, more Sharia law is being enacted where homosexuals are being caned, lashed and humiliated in public. It started on one island, but has spread to other districts with government approval.

I worked with a guy years ago at a casino who was muslim and practiced Islam. I became decent "friends" (from a co-worker/work related perspective) with him to the point where I got comfortable enough with him to ask some common questions regarding Islam. One was Sharia Law. This was HIS explanation. I'll go ahead and put the disclaimer that it doesn't mean everyone who practices Islam believes this. But this guy did.

He told me as long as they were the minority they were to be peaceful and go by the "laws of the land". However, once they became the majority they demand Sharia Law be the practice of the land even if it meant resorting to violence. That's been over 10 years ago that he told me this.

It's been a bit surprising to see the lack of knowledge of what the Quran actually teaches, and it does have a wide leeway for violence - even incentivizing the practice at times. That isn't to say there aren't peaceful Muslims. But a Muslim that follows and practices all commands in the Quran is expected to use some form of violence in the name of Muhammad and Allah.

As long as the Muslim population remains around or under 2% in any given country, they will be for the most part be regarded as a peace-loving minority, and not as a threat to other citizens.

At 2% to 5%, they begin to proselytize from other ethnic minorities and disaffected groups, often with major recruiting from the jails and among street gangs.

From 5% on, they exercise an inordinate influence in proportion to their percentage of the population. For example, they will push for the introduction of halal (clean by Islamic standards) food, thereby securing food preparation jobs for Muslims. They will increase pressure on supermarket chains to feature halal on their shelves — along with threats for failure to comply.

When Muslims approach 10% of the population, they tend to increase lawlessness as a means of complaint about their conditions.

After reaching 20%, nations can expect hair-trigger rioting, jihad militia formations, sporadic killings, and the burnings of Christian churches and Jewish synagogues.

At 40%, nations experience widespread massacres, chronic terror attacks, and ongoing militia warfare.

From 60%, nations experience unfettered persecution of non-believers of all other religions (including non-conforming Muslims), sporadic ethnic cleansing (genocide), use of Sharia Law as a weapon, and Jizya, the tax placed on infidels.

After 80%, expect daily intimidation and violent jihad, some State-run ethnic cleansing, and even some genocide, as these nations drive out the infidels, and move toward 100% Muslim.

100% will usher in the peace of ‘Dar-es-Salaam’ — the Islamic House of Peace. Here there’s supposed to be peace, because everybody is a Muslim, the Madrases are the only schools, and the Koran is the only word.

Nice. LOL! Just look at Europe. There are "parts of town" where they are the "majority" and in those areas they have basically have overthrown the laws of the land and put in Sharia Law. I have a former HS classmate who lives there. He told me there are parts of town that law enforcement doesn't even go because they fear for their lives. They've lost jurisdiction and control where the Muslims are the majority. IMO, that doesn't need to go un-noticed by our country. I've always liked learning from other people's mistakes rather than waiting until I make them. The consequences aren't nearly as bad.
