I was having this discussion with my father recently. He is an absolute fanatic about man-made global warming, to the point that, now that he is retired, he demands that all you people out there stop driving cars (he does not drive any more, and takes the bus to the grocery store, so he is not to blame for man-made global warming).
Then we were talking about the film The Martian (which I enjoyed by the way)
I informed my father that Mars is experiencing global warming as well. (Mars' polar ice caps melting.)
I told him that this "was obviously Bush's fault."
He gave me that "smart Aleck" look.

So is global warming a real thing or no? I'm confused.

regardless, i'm going to be really honest with ya, if you expect me to quit driving and leaving my AC on at home all day, you can go fly a kite. I'll let the yuppies with their stupid slow hybird cars take care of that one for me.

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.

About that.

Another related study was done by Scafetta and West that is pretty interesting. I'll not try to get into the details here, and it is pretty complicated to read. I can't find a good link to it right now.

IMO this is yet another case where we just do not have enough long term observable data to determine the actual effects. From what I can gather the earliest observations taking into account are from 1971 and later.

Is it the one where Scafetta's results couldn't be duplicated by other researchers and he refused to publish his code?

I believe the one I was referring to is more recent but I could be wrong. I certainly don't believe it was over 5 years ago. I will try to dig it up when I have some time.

FWIW I believe he did actually release the code, but my memory fails me right now that was a good while ago.

Maybe we need to send 50,000 snow makers up to the North Pole all loaded down with Solar Panels to create the energy to run the snow makers....

I think that would definitely work....

yeah ok

Have you ever been poking around on the Interwebnetzone, when somebody comes along and says, “Hey, I never really thought about global warming/vaccination/evolution before, but suddenly and unexplainably I am now." And it actually turns out they were a science denialist all along?

A nice comprehensive response.

Human caused climate change is real, and it is important. It has such monumental implications that governments around the world have been coming together since the 1980s to work out how best to address it. Yet the scientific consensus that we are changing the climate is constantly being challenged by those who have financial or other interests in the continued use of fossil fuels. This has resulted in a “consensus gap” whereby a measurable, though shrinking, proportion of the general public is not sure that anthropogenic climate change is real or important. Unfortunately, this consensus gap allows for those who do not respect the science to parachute in now and then to help maintain a beachhead of denial.

David Siegel recently penned an article at Medium.com in which he tells us he has spent several hours studying the climate change problem, and he has determined that there really isn’t one. The most cursory inspection of his thesis suggests that Siegel has spent most of those hours studying and re-phrasing the anti-science “denialist” rhetoric, readily available on line. Not one of his points, and he has, conveniently, ten of them, is novel, insightful, or in any way different from what we have seen developed by the other fossil-fuel defending organizations and individuals.

And, once more......................so we can make scientists quake in their boots, and be afraid to communicate with each other:

LOL. Still parroting the manufactroversy that was climategate, I see. As I said in an earlier post, if Lamar Smith was actually searching for malfeasance, he need look no further than the raw data they already handed him.

This is a partisan witch hunt. Their personal correspondence is protected and should remain so.
