I just got thru watching the 98 LSU game on dvd and i think back to that day wondering how in the hell we pull that one out.We were gettting totally dominated by lsu thru out the first half they had like 200 and something yards to our 50 something and only had a 6 point lead at halftime.Lsu was really going to put us away early in the fourth quarter up 16-7 inside the five yard line then marcus spencer gets a pick in the endzone. Then after the pick we drive down the field and have to try for a field goal to cut the lead to 6 but the kick gets blocked it really looked hopeless there for us with a little more than 5 mintues left in the game. Then we stop lsu and they have to punt to us with a little more than 3 mintues left in the game and then we score on a td pass from zow to alexander on a sliding catch in the endzone. Then one of the greatest onside kicks of all time by Daniel Pope and then on our next drive another tip pass td for Quincy Jackson it had such a good game in this one. Wow it has been eight years since that game and i still find myself asking how did we pull that one out. Please bama fans give me some thoughts from some games that u look back on and say wow how did we win that one. RTR

Not so much about the game itself, but everything leading up to it... I'd say 99 Florida falls in to that category.

-An earlier embarrassing loss to La. Tech
-The whole Dubose Situation
-The team just playing lackluster football
-Playing in gainsville.

That team just stuck with them and pulled one out.

Unfortunately, there's been more of the "How did we lose that one" games lately =/

Re: Past bama games i look at and say how did we win that one

I was at that game and it stands as one of the most improbable victories in Bama history. LSU absolutely dominated Bama for 3.5 quarters and the score absolutely didn't even come close to reflecting how badly we were getting beaten.

I had some guest tickets from the LSU chancellor, was surrounded by huge LSU alumni donors on the fifty yard line and didn't wear any Tide gear at this game. I was talking to an LSU fan behind me as their chance at breaking the streak unravelled. When Bama recovered the onside kick, I turned to get his reaction and he was gone.

I went up to the LSU club after the game and was still trying to keep a low profile when then LSU Chancellor Bill Jenkins spied me and yelled across a crowded room: "Don't even try to act like you're disappointed...we know you're happy". It was a wonderful night. RTR.

Good to know they still treated you well after they lost. I was wondering, as i read your post, how it would turn out.

MTSU 2002. Bama wins 39-34. Up 21-0 in the 1Q Bama slowly but surely let's MTSU back in the game. I was at that game in B'Ham and it was absolutely nerve wracking. MTSU actually had some NFL talent on the offensive side of the ball, and really gave us a ton of trouble.

We had not even slowed PSU down on that drive...it was 3rd down when they elected to kick it. If they would have run a handoff up the middle, there is no way we could have stopped them... divine providence, no doubt.

Howabout '99 game vs. the gators in the swamp. That game just seemed too good to be true. With the muffed punt going to bama and the missed points by first bama then matched by UF. Wow, that was crazy. I was at the game and the gator fans were furious they let that one get away from them. We had to hang low to avoid getting into any altercations. And I was wearing flip-flops so I didn't want to break any toes or anything!

How about a tie that felt like a win? 1993 vs Tennessee with David Palmer literally taking over the game and willing Bama down the field for the game-tying score. Absolutely unbelievable. RTR.

UT in Knoxville way back in 1972. We are undefeated and and our offense is doing nothing against a great Vol defense and terrific young Condredge Holloway from Huntsville (Lee HS) has kept our defense completely off balance. Listening to John Forney call the game - so many remarkable games weren't televised back then- when late in the 4th quarter, fullback Steve Bisceglia took a hand-off, broke 5 or tackles at the line of scrimmage, and rumbled down to the one. Wilbur Jackson scored on the next play and the game was tied at 10.

Haskell Stanback of Tennessee fumbled the ensuing kickoff - I can still hear the Bama coaches screaming in the booth next the announcers and we had the ball at the 20 with less than 2 minutes to go. Terry Davis scored on a keeper on the next play. Unbelievable, folks; simply unbelievable!

You're right . If I recall correctly , Bama began the game by really out-playing PSU and should've had a larger lead . The 2nd half was a 180 with PSU becoming better and better every time they got the ball . Bear may have had a hand in that one .

RTR !!!!!!!!!!!

1972 UT-Bama game in Knoxville. Their defense has limited us to 3 points deep into the 4th quarter. Condredge Holloway, so elusive and gifted, has led them to 10 points against a pretty fair Alabama defense. No television so we are listening to John Forney and Doug Layton - desperation in their voices. Less than 5 minutes to go as I recall and Steve Biscelgia breaks 5 tackles at the line of scrimmage before rumbling down to the 1 yard line. Wilbur Jackson scores on the next play. Haskell Stanback fumbles the ensuing kickoff and Forney has to scream over the cheering of the Alabama coaches in the adjacent booth. QB Terry Davis scores on a keeper off the right side and we win 17-10. Unbelievable, folks, just unbelievable.

The '88 game at Kentucky. Don't trust my memory on this one but wasn't it a two point conversion from Sutton to Newberry that won the game at the very end? I think I remember faking a field goal for a touchdown also.

A few years back, 2002 or 2003 I believe, Bama only managed to score 4 field goals to Vandy's 3. I am glad the Tide won, but still wonder what the heck happened. Vandy almost beat us. Ouch.:eek2:
