Well, they have been practicing against one of the best, if not the best, defenses in the country. The defense has been relentless putting pressure on these quarterbacks this past week during scrimmages. That has to help a lot.
Classic Steele. Not to get off topic but My barner drinking buddy was hacked off that Alabama got him. When I brought up this boards trepidation about him when he was hired. He looked at me and said "I don't care what little stats they throw out about the guy, I know what he did for auburns defense. Your players are going to play so much harder for him then Golding"

Read another Barner comment on CFB reddit that was cautioning Bama haters who were celebrating. He said something like, "He isn't Kirby or Pruitt, but he will squeeze every ounce of talent that there is on the roster and get the most of out of it."

The WR drops have me more concerned than reading about any QB misstep yesterday, that will be corrected. Most NFL QBs make mistakes in training camp so it’s inexperienced college QBs making mistakes is expected but it’s hard for a QB to gain confidence when their receivers are dropping perfectly thrown balls.

We’re only a little less than a month away though

I don't know how you fix it because I don't understand how it's a problem in the first place.
It's like a 5-star chef who has been trained his whole life to be a chef and then randomly can't operate a stove or cook scrambled eggs. It doesn't happen in any other profession/art/sport than this one.

Not exactly a ringing endorsement from Saban

Saban on WRs: "They're all working hard, but attention to detail with route running and timing is probably something they all need to focus on.

I know I'm a debbie downer, but there seems to be a lot of reason to stay concerned about QB and WR. RB is suppsed to be solid, but if the WRs are as weak as they were last year and the QB isn't scaring anyone they're not going to have a lot of room to operate.

I don't really know what to expect at this point. Season can't get here soon enough.

I do kinda doubt this is a championship year though. But I've been wrong plenty of times before

I think the difference is this year’s team will have totally different philosophies on both sides of the ball, compared to last year. We can no longer rely on the best QB in college football to run the offense, so we will have to spread the ball around.

Our defense should be excellent and no longer a liability. The OL and secondary will be the strength of the team IMO.

Benson is just working his way up the playing order. It’s how you get respect from your teammates. And he is being challenged by Saban to work for playing time. He will grow from the work or get lost in the shuffle. But I think Benson will be really good.

Well, you are a valued poster here Coach and I for one appreciate your view. The drops by the wide receivers is baffling, simply baffling. I could deal with it in the Spring but bleeding into the Fall is just too much. I don't care how fast you are or how well you get open but if you can't catch the flipping football then put in another guy. If you don't have sure hands as a WR then you really do not belong at this level.

While a package for Milroe exists, he won't be the starter. Simpson has the most upside if he can limit the mistakes. If he can't Ty is the man. (That is still the great unknown) That is from a reliable source inside the building.
I like the sound of that.

Granted it was only one game, but at ND, Buchner didn’t exactly wow with ball security in their bowl game against USCe. True, he made some big plays, but he also had 3 INTs, including two pick-sixes.

No resemblance to Milroe, is there?

Of the three INTs, his fault in the first one is debatable….I could go either way on it. The second one was a horrendous playground improvisation gone wrong, and the third one was jaw-droppingly bad given 1st and goal, up by seven (six?), with a chance to close out the game with a score of any description.

Watch the highlights on YouTube. Small sample size, but questionable ball security at best. I confess I was underwhelmed.

We can all rest assured that if he does something like that during a game he won't be the starter after that.
