Positives from the Other Side of the Aisle

I was looking for a place to post about something good that JD Vance did but I couldn’t find an appropriate thread, so I decided to create one where we can share the good things done by those with whom we usually disagree. Maybe acknowledging some positives from political rivals will help negate the “other side is completely evil” stigma that some of us have.

Right before Biden left, he made a move that I thought was very good. He signed in that people who had paid into SS before entering the governmental retirement system can draw 100% of the Social Security when they retire rather than just 66% of it. I thought that was a great move.

I make fun of AOC a lot, but she is absolutely right when she criticizes how our leadership buys and sells stocks while sitting on committees that regulate that particular industry. It's crazy how much insider trading happens in D.C. and literally everyone gets away with it.

Add to this the common practice of members of Congress getting beacoup dollars from big corporations, only to leave Congress (by choice or by defeat) and turn around and make big bucks as lobbyists for said corporations or their interests.

There is a reason why Boeing keeps getting the fat of the government expenditures - despite having SpaceX run rings around them in the manned space program for a lot less $$$, and despite blessing Boeing with the 6th-generation fighter jet program despite Boeing's continual mad rush to step on their own Johnson.

Ike's warning about the military-industrial complex fell on deaf ears.

Unless we find out she's doing the very thing she criticizes - which given we're talking politicians wouldn't make me flinch in the least.

But I concur otherwise.

I guess "both sides" really are that different. I figured this thread would have a little more to it than this. So basically neither side has done or believes much of anything anyone from the other side has done or agrees with. Geeze, we can do better than this guys. LOL!

I think one of the big issues is how often somebody on one side of the aisle does something that a significant portion of "the other side" agrees with, it's never for the charitable or diplomatic reason, there's an underlying sneakiness to the whole thing. But the one thing I would point out is that as much as we loathe them, they are only doing enough to not antagonize their constituency before the next election.

Politicians are sleazy, but voters enable it.

Have you not been reading the thread?

Wasn't there some agreement that AOC might make a few points that the other side agrees with.

Ditto for Elizabeth Warren.

I am still looking for something positive to say about the GOP, but I'm reminded of a song John Denver wrote about Spiro Agnew:

:D

Again, l AGREE with the sentiment, it’s just that I’ve been burned by too many politicians who pretended to be something they weren’t. She DOES get credit - for now.

Another example of trying to fix a problem that doesn't exist.

The SAVE Act, on its surface, requires proof of citizenship for registering to vote in all federal elections. However, existing law already does that. All federal voter registration forms include a checkbox requiring registrants to positively affirm citizenship. Violating that is punishable and instances of non-citizens voting is exceedingly rare. Instead of solving a real problem, the SAVE Act would have disastrous effects on our work, election official workloads, and eligible voters across the nation.

Well, I guess so much for the positive side of this thread. Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming. LOL!

To be honest with you it really is a sad symbol of where the country is. I always loathed Bill Clinton because of that smarmy crooked lip “I’m Elvis” look when you knew he was lying but I’d take him over anything we’ve had the last decade, too.

Not sure how positive that is…..

Yeah, I have a very, very hard time believing that people from both parties are that far apart on 99.999% of issues, with zero room to compromise. To where "we" cannot find ONE THING good that the other party believes in or is trying to do.

I think the reality is we've let this "our side" vs "your side" get so personal that pride has set in, and one party could literally find a cure for every cancer known to man, and the other party would vote it down just because. It's sad, it really is, that we've devolved into this as a society. The root of it is no different than two adolescent rival siblings fighting with each other because the other JUST CAN'T be right. We have to make sure of that.

Had Bill been the nominee in 2016 I would have voted for him.
