IMHO, 5* WRs are currently only looking at $$$ and don’t pay too much attention to other things.
The top portal WR went to Auburn this year. It is not like they are running some cool offensive scheme there.
Yup

Cant complain about NIL ruining the game then complain about why you don't have 4 million dollar receivers on the roster.

Where ever there's BBQ, Bourbon & Football
Adding depth. Depth is usually not sexy.

Its frustrating I know because we all feel there's bigger needs.

Im still in a "trust the staff" mood for now.

If we'd gotten the Utah state rb I'd have been ecstatic fwiw.

Nope, it isn't sexy but apparently that is what the staff IS DOING. I just heard Josh Pate on a radio broadcast say we're doing exactly what Ohio St is doing and that's using the NIL/Portal to pay the most money to guys on the roster to keep them and adding some additions/depth with the portal. So the lack of "big sexy" transfer acquisitions isn't necessarily what the staff is trying to do...

We are probably playing Moneyball now...

And playing like we dont have any money...

Welcome to the Oakland As, ladies and gentlemen...
I don't think some appreciate the money it takes to keep one of the most talented rosters on campus, plus bringing in a top high school class. They have like 14 seniors returning this year... Guys like Jackson and Lawson, Overton, Roberts, or Keenan in the past try to go to the draft and see if they can be late round picks and get paid that way. Instead Bama has to pay them while they hope to improve draft stock in a year.

Few weeks ago the rally cry was how bad the team needs to get defensive linemen to replace what's leaving.... Then Overton stays, Keenan stays etc and now that issue is much quieter. A player saved is a player earned Or payed :D

Kind of like your monthly household budget. Mortgage, insurance, car payments, utilities, groceries, child care, etc. take the priority. Then you can decide how often/much you spend on the other stuff. The “need” before the “want”.

Also tells you what they think about the talent on the team already.

Pretty smart strategy. The only thing missing from championship level play this season was at 1 position, which is the most important one. Leadership has a role to play but, looking at this roster, what we lost and what is coming in from high school, we shore up that one position with even a game manager type and we are in the hunt in 2025.

Well yes that's a problem too.

But if a kid is looking at..

Option 1: Alabama with a $1 Mil offer and not a single 1,000 WR in 2024 and Passing Game problems

or

Option 2: tOSU/Colorado/ASU/LSU etc with a $1 Mil offer and a high octane functional passing game that almost produces multiple 1,000 WRs

The kid would probably choose Option B because it looks like the better opportunity to get touches and create self value.

Now I'm sure as @Bamabuzzard says the staff will be trying to work out concerns a WR might have but that's still going to be an upward battle when the tape from 2024 says differently.

18yo Kids don't always make the best decisions and especially with the type of money that's being thrown at them right now.

We'll imo be in much better shape at landing premier WRs in 2026 after they see CKDs Passing Offense operating like it should with an actual real QB who can distribute the ball.

Both RW and Germie have 1,000 Yard+ potential with a QB who can get the ball close to their jersey number.
We averaged 14 less passing yards a game in the regular season the Ohio State. 240 to 254. We averaged more passing yards per game then Arizona State. Colorado and LSU did out pass us by good amount but that is because Colorado was dead last in college football in rushing yards and LSU was 109th in rushing. LSU and Colorado were also both bottom 10 in rush attempts per game. You’re gonna get more yards passing if you have to throw it almost every down.

I would have to look again but is that what OSU is doing this time around you mean because it seemed like they broke the bank in transfers last year.

Ross has transferred to Kansas State
Lockwood has transferred to Boston College (BoB could’ve been his original recruiter)

Not exactly great destinations.

No clue, but outside of a parent specifically asking, I don't see a recruit going that in-depth with the staff asking why a certain player didn't play. But I could be wrong.
Well Saban said conversations with recruits had reach the point where the major concern wasn’t, carries, targets, scheme, development, etc.. It was “So Coach how much ya’ll gonna pay me?” first and foremost. Then you could talk about all the other minor stuff.

Jason Robinson out of California who went to Washington and former recruit who originally committted to CKD has entered the portal. He redshirted this year as a freshman but with connection to coach might want to come here. He is a pure slot type receiver that has lots of wiggle. He lacks size which the one big issue or he would be a much higher rated guy.

“ Robinson is arguably the best pure route runner in the state. He’s a prototype slot receiver who just knows how to get open. He’s quick off the line, can get in and out of his breaks and plays with a high understanding of how to set up a corner to get easy separation. Catches the ball well and will give you yards after contact. Could also be a threat in the return game on punts and kickoffs at the college level. Highly competitive kid who plays with a bit of a chip on his shoulder and will always give you max effort. Will need to continue to add some good weight and strength to his frame to fill out for the physicality of the college game but has the skill set to be a very good player at the next level.” From his recruitment profile
