I can’t believe I’m having to write this, but here we go…

I just suspended a member of 17 years standing for using an acronym for a phrase that contains a major non-TF word.

You won’t be reading any new posts from him for some time.

Statements haven’t worked. Reminders haven’t worked. Endless examples of attempts to circumvent the filters (including acronyms) haven’t worked. Shorter suspensions have had only marginal effect. As many times as I’ve gone over this, it’s especially galling when a long-term poster who knows the rules thinks, “They don’t mean me.”

So long-term suspensions permanent bans are what’s left.

And we do mean you, even (especially!) if you've been around for a long time.

I just read a lot of the guidelines and I have a question. (Not trying to be a wise guy....)

If I'm referencing some other person's too liberal use of "***bombs" (No. Not on Tidefans.) does THAT violate the profanity rule?

Yes.

Same as an acronym or a cute alternative spelling or equally cute transposition of syllables.

Reasons are (1) it clearly conveys the profanity, and (2) our posters have proven themselves incredibly creative in trying to circumvent the rule.

In short, if there’s any slack given, endless “what abouts” ensue.

I know your question is sincere, which is why I’m only editing it. Otherwise, it would have been treated entirely differently.

Bottom Line is TideFans owner doesn’t care how other sites handle the issue.

Just don’t try to convey profanity in any way, shape, or form on TideFans.

I'm not a moderator and I don't play one on TV, although I have stayed in a "Holiday Inn Express" but.....

If you have to ask 'what about this,' you shouldn't be saying it here anyway.
What I use as a rule of thumb is, if I wouldn't say it to my Sunday school teacher in church on Sunday, don't say it here.

Perfect summation.

It’s amazing how people seem to struggle understanding the basic principle.
This is actually all great clarification. Because so many forums are different and people are so active online now. I for instance don't post on this board all the time. But if I come during some sort of good news or bad news or big game lol..... I know not to put blatant profanity, but it's 2nd nature to add some ***** to cover up some things.

Anyways, my point of chiming in is to say. I've got the message, but it could help others who only visit or actually post infrequently to leave this very blatant message pinned to the top of this board. As my years as a marketer and realtor tells me..... People don't like to read much. Hard to miss a Zero profanity tolerance post.

I don't know if a new thread has been made every time this issue has popped up, but it has been discussed and talked about more times than I can remember. People do it because they want to and if they do there should be no grace given, because it is supposed to be ZERO profanity.
