QB/ATH Russell Shepard committed to LSU

It looks like that LSU is not sliding into mediocrity under Miles as fast as people thought. Now that Les is going to be coaching HIS players, I think that we'll be just fine. :)

Out of 7 commitments so far, we have two 5 stars and an average star rating of 4.00. And, we are just getting started. I wish we didn't have to take a small class (around 20-22 players). This is getting ridiculous. Texas fans are having heart attacks right now.

Sorry guys, but living in Alabama, I have heard consistently from Bama fans that Miles is an idiot and is only winning because of Saban's players. Hopefully, that kind of talk will begin to die and we can get on with respecting each other and giving credit where it is due.

Now, flame away!

Well Lester can certainly recruit, and one would expect him to do well after getting credit for Saban's championship last year (j/k). And LSU is one of the most talented states next year. But it was smart to recruit the guys girlfriend, maybe they gave her the money?

I kid, LSU looks to be putting together a sick class. And will continue to do such.

Still think they'll be lucky to win a title again under him, about as lucky as they were to win this one.

Last time I looked I-10 East was open. Use it if you can't stand Louisiana. Until then get used to hearing about LSU in Louisiana. I'm sure its the same in Bama for LA people living there.
:p_eyes:

And last time I looked this is a bama board. And by the way scooter, no one said anything about me "can't standing Louisiana." You just made that up yourself. Now go stand by I-10 east and make sure it stays open.
:p_lol:

Here I am...stuck in the middle again! Literally!:p_lol:

I believe the feeling is that Miles is riding the momentum and success that Saban started at LSU. Miles may have, and he may not have, been able to turn the fortunes of LSU football around like Saban did.......Miles inherited the best talent (arguably) in the nation and actuallly underachieved in '06 and was dang lucky to be able to win the NC with 2 losses in '07.

Miles may be great but most any decent HC can win with the best talent in the nation handed to them and can recruit good players to a winning team. If Miles can sustain the current success for the next 4-5 years we will have to admit he is a great HC.........Even a great HC can also be a goof ball.

Well... it's much easier to sink a ship than make it float (even if it was buoyant to begin with). Miles deserves some credit! It's hard to get the ball rolling like Saban did but it's also difficult to sustain the roll.

If Les can continue the drama for 5 to 20 more years then he will truly become lesendary. Er, I mean, legendary. Who knows? Maybe he will? He's definitely recruiting well. I still think some of his game-time decisions are faulty but maybe he is learning as he goes too? I don't know. Props to Miles for a strong SEC est. though.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Miles has basically continued what Saban built. Could Miles have built the monster that is LSU now like Saban did? I highly doubt it. And to be honest, now that LSU is an elite program, any one of us could go down there and secure top 10 classes every year. I have no clue if Miles will continue his success now that he'll be with his own players, but there's little doubt that it's easier to keep an elite program cruising than to build one from the ground up. I'm betting that in Miles' first year with all of his own players, they lose 3-4 games and don't sniff ATL. We can all look at what Coker did at Miami....and his career is eerily similar to Miles' at LSU thus far. Coker won a NC with Davis' players, just like Miles did with Saban's. He had marginal success after that, but never was able to dominate with his own players despite landing top rated classes of his own.
*BTW--According to rivals.com(whom most us of find as the most credible service)LSU's 2009 class has 1 five star, 1 four star, and 5 unrated players(which means most of them will be ranked as 3-stars once they get rated). Not bad at all, but not quite as amazing as the LSU poster claimed. I fully expect Bama to land another top 5 class this year as well....Saban is off to a great start with 4-star super-stud DT DJ Fluker. Look for another 1-2 commits next week after Junior day as well.

Uh, no sir. You are incorrect. Micheal Ford is NR, and I guarantee you he isn't a 3 star. There isn't even a Top 250 as of now...wait 'til the HS season starts, and you will have players that haven't been evaluated jump into the 250...and the 100 will be rearranged several times by the time all is said and done.

In short, of the NR players they have committed so far...I dare say NONE are 3 stars. Think about it...right now, there are only 14 5 star players on Rivals top 100. Why? They haven't had time to evaluate everyone yet. There were 30 last season...which is about average.

My how Bama fans can forget Alonzo Lawerence's rocket up the board. Good work straightin' him out Fish. :)

Just find me a good deal on a bass boat Fish and I'll buy a LSU cap and wear it when y'all play Auburn.
I'm looking! I brought a paper back from NOLA yesterday...and I'm gonna go thru it today. I'll let you know if I find anything...then I'll SEND you an LSU cap! But you have to wear it for the AU game, UF game, UGA game, USCe game, OM game, MSU game, and Arky game. :p_lol:

Exactly! Which happenned in what? December? I know it happenned after the MS/Bama All Star game...when he had a great night against Julio.

Thing is, the players that LSU currently has committed are even more well known that Lawrence was at the same time last year. Not saying they are better...(comparing apples to oranges, since LSU doesn't have DB's committed right now)...and I know the opposite can happen...players can fall.

You might want to send some Grey Goose Vodka with that cap...

I think LSU will have a fine 09 recruiting class. It just sucks (for an LSU fan) that you don't have room for all the talent coming out of Louisiana in 09, because it's a bunch. But I'm hoping $lick Nick can get one or two. Just as Alabama had a lot of HS talent last season Louisiana is duplicating that in 09.

By the way Fish, since y'all will have to be pretty selective with the 09 recruits what positions will y'all need to fill? Or will y'all just take "best available talent" type approach no matter if the position the kid plays is a need or not?

We need LB's for sure...and have some good ones on the radar. Montrell Conner tried to commit, but found out he was being recruited for LB...not RB...and he didn't have a committable offer for either. He is still being evaluated for LB...but I think he got his feelings hurt...and really wants to play RB. Barkevious Mingo (cool name, huh?) is raw, but is projected to be a beast. But he's more likely a project at DE than LB...and I just don't think LSU NEEDS projects at DE right now. He would be great in Bama's 'D' as an OLB. Kevin Minter is the best LB we're on that I know of right now. Tahj Jones is still being evaluated...but I think they're just waiting on grades.

RB is loaded NOW...but we didn't take any last season...so we'll likely grab 3 this season. We have Ford already, and will likely get Hasan Libscomb from Texas. (formerly from NOLA before Katrina). After that, we will be selective...and hopefully pick up someone like Lamar Miller from Florida...unless Eddie Lacy gets his grades in order...we MIGHT go after him...but he's risky.

We've picked up two OL commits so far, and I see us taking at least one more...depending on how much room they can make.

WR is all about Rueben Randle, as I'm sure you know. Not exactly a NEED...but you just can't let him go. You MAKE room for him.

DT is all about Chris Davenport and Jamarcus McFarland. If we get both, I'll be estatic.

At DE, we already have Brockers from Texas...and hopefully we can snag Devon Kennard from AZ.

One of the cool things about having limited schollys is that these kids are more apt to commit early...when they KNOW a spot is available. Even the great ones like Shepard know space is limited...so they get it over early. Probably helps them too...as they can concentrate on being qualified without all the distractions that go along with recruiting. Right now, I don't know of anyone of our guys that is unlikely to qualify. Maybe LSU picks up Lacy thinking he WON'T qualify...and we can get him in NEXT year. He's good...better than Ford, IMHO...but Ford has like a 3.8 GPA...which makes him the more secure commit.

I see you've done your homework as usual, Fish:)

lol

Lets put it that way, after Davenport and Ruben randell committs we'll have 3-4 5stars...all the players that committed now are 4 stars except maybe for 1
This class will be the best ever at LSU

Wow, with all the talent in the state of LA this year, looks like Miles is going to fill 1/3 of his class with kids from out of state. That sure is going to leave a heck of a lot of grade-A studs on the board for other teams to come poach. Guess who's going to be coming down there to get some of those LA boys once LSU is out of spots?:biggrin::biggrin:

That's what I'm hoping for. LSU cannot sign nearly all the top talent in the state for 09 so there will be opportunities for outsiders to pick up some good'uns.

You're funny, man. If the shoe was on the other foot, you would be touting the exceptional ability of the Alabama coaching staff to recruit nationally. Do you think it would be smarter to go ahead and just get everyone in state...and let these sorry out of state 5*'s go somewhere else??

I can tell you right now...the ones that LSU isn't able to make room for...Saban is likely to get. So HE'LL be the one getting all these out of state kids...with Bama having limited schollies this year too...so I guess Ears will pick thru the ones Saban leaves in Bama while he goes after all these LA kids that Miles leaves in LA. Does that make Saban a dummy?:p_eyes:

I just hope $aban can get some of that left over talent. It's going to be very very good. If we can nab two or three that will be a plus.
