Really? what did his mother say?

Surf,
I know on Collins. I can dream, can't I?

His mother said that Kiel wanted to visit Bama again and check out the facilities and the school like a normal student. She said that Kiel and the family really enjoyed the visit. She also said that UA feels like home and she really enjoys how nice everyone is at UA. She said that Kiel enjoyed getting closer to the coaches and some of the players on the Bama team. She said that Kiel has not made his decision yet but it is up to him where he wants to go to school and play football.

I get the feeling that the mom wants him to choose Bama or at the very least she reallly likes Bama herself. I see no hints in her interview that she is trying to hide a secret commitment. The one thing that came out of the interview is that they headed straight home with no stop in Missouri. There is talk going around that Kiel will visit Missouri sometime next week. I hope he announces his decisions some time soon. I can not remember a prospect that was as thorough in checking out his top schools as Kiel has been.

I think you meant Moron and not Maroon. Just guessing. ;)

I think he meant what he said. That is if he is portraying Bugs Bunny. He would always say "what a maroon" instead of moron. Ofcourse this is just a guess on my part but I do believe that is what he was doing. ;)

No Surf, he has it right. It's a Bugs Bunny phrase; maroon for moron, ignoranamus for ignoramus. Just thought you'd want to know.

I don't know anyone remotely resembling a recruiting insider, so I hardly ever post on this board, but I read it every day. Following this thread has been interesting, to say the least. Here's hoping Kiel makes us all happy, at the time of his choosing.

Edit: apologies swoop, I guess typing while watching a movie caused me to still be typing while you were posting, cause your post wasn't up when I started.

I stand corrected. ;)

Thx Surfer. I agree that the mother seems very fond of Bama. we shall see...

The mom seeming to like Bama probably has something to do with CNS schmoozing the mom. Kind of reminds me of the story about how Coach Bryant often spent time with the mother's of recruits. When he was recruiting Wilbur Jackson in the early 1970s (I think that's right), he came to the house to visit Wilbur. Jackson didn't want to play for Bama and Coach Bryant originally. He and CPB spoke for a while and then CPB went into the kitchen, sat down and had coffee with the mother for something like two hours. When he left, Jackson told his mother, "I'm not playing for that cracker!". The mother replied, "Oh yes you are!" and he did. Pretty funny.

I REALLY want this kid. I just get a feeling that he could be that "elite" QB like an Andrew Luck type. The kind of QB who makes headlines. I honestly think McCarron or Sims could become that type as well, but this kid just gives me a good feeling.

I remember a story about Coach Bryant and his recruitment of Ozzie Newsome. Newsome was the #1 WR, the #1 overall prospect in Alabama and one of the top prospects in the SE. I will paraphrase the story I heard. Newsome was being heavily recruited and one Saturday Newsome's father had scheduled quite a few coaches to visit, including Coach Bryant. The father set up a table in the front hard and him and Ozzie were meeting with several coaches that morning. Coach Bryant arrived and there was a coach or two at the table visiting with Newsome and his father when Coach Bryant arrived. CPB went up to the table and greated the father and Newsome, the other coach or coaches and spoke with them briefly. After the short conversation he asked Mr. Newsome if Mrs. Newsome was at home and would it be alright if he went inside and spoke with her? He went in and talked with Mrs. Newsome. After an hour or so he came out and spoke briefly with Mr. Newsome and Ozzie and then left. Ozzie signed with Bama and the rest is history. ;)

Do you think he would come here with the possibility of not seeing playing time until
at least year 2? It seems like a lot of these top quarterbacks want to go where they can
play day 1. Thoughts?

He can play day 1. All he has to do is prove that he is the best QB on the roster with the best grasp of the offense.

In my opinion he and his family understand that any QB needs a year to develop, especially in the SEC before seeing the field. Think about how many QBs that were 5 star coming out of HS was force to start their freshman year and were successful. Heck most struggle their 2nd year.

Also L Jones is a junior who may or may not come out next year and even if he does they have Blake Bell wiating in line. Kiel would be waiting until his 2nd year at OU at minimum.

Him not seeing playing time until at least year 2 is the best case scenario for Bama and him in my opinion. If he sees the field sooner than that it would be because of some bad luck for us. Doubt we or anyone could win a national championship with a true freshman QB. Has it ever been done in the modern times?

More like 3 years and one of those years might be a red shirt, unless he feels he could beat out bell after LJ leaves.

Oklahoma did it with Jamelle Holieway in 1985.
