Well now.. seems its not just me anymore.. ESPN has also moved Winston's QB rating up dramatically to the top.

Although this update is on Kiel, I posted it here because it mentions Winston going to Alabama.

Bilo College Football Report: Gunner Kiel Update

The latest info on the Gunner Kiel derby comes from Justin Davis of "Tha SportsKrib".
Justin has informed me that QB Jamies Winston will commit to Alabama on 8/3, leaving Alabama as being off of the charts, as I had stated earlier today that Kiel does not desire to sign with a school that has already inked a QB for the 2012 class.
Matt Chandik, our Big 10 expert and sports writer for the Delaware County Times, also confirmed for me the legitimacy of Indiana as a landing spot for Kiel, as his ties to the school are now extremely strong.
We will have more information on the Gunner Kiel sweepstakes as it comes available. It still sounds as if we can expect an announcement as early as next week, according to ESPN and SEC sources.

So Justin Davis, Aka. JersyMikeJr from Charlotte, NC has the scoop on Jameis Winston? I think the Bilo College Football Report link meant to say that Davis 'thinks' not informs them on the impending decision of Winston. Bilo College has been informed. Brilliant! lol

Seriously, I am going to allow this to be the start up post of the Winston Updates 2 thread but you need to back off on the aggressive Winston vs. Kiel debate. Support Winston all you want but you do not need to try and compare, debate, or argue your points against Kiel.

Also you are not the only poster that believes that Winston will choose Bama on Aug. 3rd, just the most vocal apparently.

Jameis has been known as a big Bama lean on here and throughout the state for well over a year or two now so no big surprise when he commits. I certainly predicted it as many others have. Gunner from my recollection has been on our radar for a whole lot lesser time and if not for his multiple visits I doubt he would have been thought of as a real possibility the past 6 months or so. In the end Bama will be fine. Not likely either one will have the same QB coach and offensive coordinator by the time whoever makes it on the field. But in Saban they trust and so do I!;)

guys I have to think if Winston commits it is going to stick. It is nothing more than a gut feeling but if he comes to Bama I think he stays.

Honestly, even if we eventually lose him to MLB, think of the guys he can help recruit! I hope he'll at least play a couple of years. But I couldn't blame him for going the Desmond Jennings route. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on one major difference between Jennings and Winston. Winston is solid in academics, and Jennings was not, correct?

Hmmm, am I reading too much into this? He knows where he's going; the coaches of the chosen school know he's coming; why would he be visiting Tuscaloosa if Alabama isn't his choice?
That is what I was thinking. Plus, the way he and EJ Manuel reportedly were buddy-buddy all last week.

I hope he's coming to Tuscaloosa. But it is possible he's headed elsewhere and our staff is taking one last swing at changing his mind. Nahhhh!

Not the most reliable of information, but like others have said a lot of us think JW wants to commit to Bama. The issue was the MLB. I wasn't sure if CNS would want a QB committed that has a serious chance at pro baseball since QB is a posiition of need for us. No one disputes the talent of JW (or Kiel for that matter). I always like seeing in-state kids come to Bama.

will be in Tuscaloosa Thursday.

Jameis Winston is bringing his entire family, including his grandmother. There are reports that Jameis and his father favor FSU and his mother and grandmother favor Bama. If Winston has already made his decision and its not Bama then this could be a last minute effort by CNS and the staff to change his mind. If Winston has already decided on Bama then this could be one last visit to firm up his decision. There are a lot of people who believe that Winston will pick either Bama or FSU. We will all know what is going to happen soon, on Aug. 3rd.

I would love it if Winston came to Bama for the long haul. But if he's offered millions from baseball, that's pretty much a no-brainer, and he's basically said as much.

Yep. The young man is in an enviable position; he'll either be a millionaire graduating high school or be about to join our beloved Crimson Tide. I'm not sure whether being an elite prospect in football would help or hurt his contract negotiations when drafted in the MLB. It could help if the team really wants to sign him and not lose him to college, but I guess it could hurt for the same reason (getting passed over b/c the options available to him drive up his asking price).

That's an interesting question about teams possibly seeing his football potential as a deterrent.

The situation just makes me uneasy, though, especially after seeing LSU lose Zach Lee last year -- and Lee actually went through part of fall camp. Even if Winston comes to Bama and has to miss spring practice every year, that's not a great thing either.

It had teams questioning Woodall. He still got offered a lot of money, though.
