Qua Russaw to miss SOME time

  • Hi Guest, we are working on updating the site servers and software. We're also 'forcing' everyone to read and agree to our site privacy policy and terms of service. There are no significant changes to either of these but the terms page does clarify a few things that are mostly in the legalese. You can just click the checkbox for both and continue using the site as usual! We'll update you more on the site upgrades VERY soon! THANK YOU AS ALWAYS for supporting the site and being an active participant!

On Sunday, Alabama announced that the starting Wolf backer will be some time after undergoing foot surgery for an injury sustained in the win over Georgia. No word on the amount of time he'll miss or the severity of the injury. Get used to Yonze Pierre as Russaw and his backup Jamarian Latham are both injured and out of action.

Russaw is a big loss. I wasn't specifically watching him, but it seemed like Pierre was playing well - anyone have an actual read on how he looked?

Pierre has been solid... We just don't have much depth.

Hill is a guy who just needs experience and seasoning.

I saw one review that said Noah Carter was a true talent, but needs to be more mature.

I'm very optimistic on Pierre. IMHO, slightly better pass rush, but not quite as great run defense, but the way wommack uses the wolf on run D sometimes I don't know that it matters much. Hill behind him has potential, but is young. I wouldn't be totally shocked to see us run a bit more heavy packages with 2 DT, and 2 Bandits (and no wolf).

I could definitely seeing us go heavy against a really big senior laden Vandy front...

And Hill will do well I think, with a bit of learning on the job, but we are fortunate to have a deep group of DL. They aren't all NFL level guys, but they seem to work and play hard.

The “some time” for Qua’s return will most likely be 6 weeks or more. That is assuming things go as expected.
He very well could be done for the regular season but possibly back in time for the playoffs if we make the field. At least that is what was being discussed on sports radio here in B’ham yesterday.
With Seat Belt’s (J Latham) career ending injury, followed by Qua’s broken foot, it is paramount we find some depth behind Pierre.

Keon is being prepped to be a big factor next year at Bandit with the other two guys graduating.
It's concerning how little he has played and he's in year 3? I hope he figures it out soon.

Losing Russaw hurts, particularly against the run as he is a better run stopper than Pierre.

There is nothing good about where stand injury wise on the DL.

Seems like I read a report that Keeley is a natural but just needed a ton of S&C to grow into his body and just lots of work as he grew from a LB spot to DE.

If not... portal time...
