We had a great shot. We lead for a while, but it looks like he'll commit to Marquette tomorrow. It's not b/c the staff was out worked.

I have to say I've been disappointed in Grant's ability to close the deal with some of these higher rated recruits. I love Coach Grant's character and approach but you need the talent to make an elite program. I don't expect us to get every one of them but I thought we would be able to get one every so often, especially at a position of need like shooting guard. Just a little frustrating.

Quite frankly we need the in-state talent to get better. It is going to be tough for us to recruit out of state talent with no ties to the university. Johnson went to a football game on his visit to Bama. He went to Midnight Madness at Marquette. I'd consider Pollard and Lacey to be two pretty big wins on the recruiting front. Cat Barber was a win until he pulled that stunt on his visit to Louisville. I wish this class would have turned at differently, but Hale and Taylor are two solid additions. I really thought we'd do more with the 4 scholarships. We are constantly fighting an up hill battle with opposing coaches telling recruits they will always be second fiddle and play in front of empty gyms until football season is over. Another thing is Coach Grant plays by the rules. He doesn't call or text in the dead period. Other coaches do. I hate to say it, but Coach Grant sticking 100% to the rules in hurting us with some players.

In an interview Johnson said he picked Marquette b/c they have been to back to back Sweet 16's. He feels at Marquette he can compete for a trip to the Final 4. They don't compete just to make the NCAA tournament. That stings.
