Question about our Defensive Baxks

  • Hi Guest, we are working on updating the site servers and software. We're also 'forcing' everyone to read and agree to our site privacy policy and terms of service. There are no significant changes to either of these but the terms page does clarify a few things that are mostly in the legalese. You can just click the checkbox for both and continue using the site as usual! We'll update you more on the site upgrades VERY soon! THANK YOU AS ALWAYS for supporting the site and being an active participant!

Why are the DBs playing so far off of the opposing teams receivers? We are giving them 7 yards.every play if they want it
So what is the strategy behind that? Thanks

His defense emphasizes vision and being able to read the QB and the goal is to eliminate the big plays and limit YAC. He also likes to blitz with DBs so guys don't have help over the top. It also allows DBs to stay on top of the run.

It's really a bend but don't break style of defense that likes to get after the QB. Tennessee moved well but as soon as the field condensed that's when we shined.

Play too tight they get behind you.
Fast guys running fast vs DBs back-peddling is tough.

This forces a QB to be consistent all game long vs big gainers. Frustrates downfield passing attacks.
Yea i see your point somewhat but we give up a lot of yardage and if the receiver makes a good move hes gone but I guess since we are not college coaches lol so it makes no difference I just find it amazing how far off they play have good one.

DeBoer this year seems to want to shrink the number of possessions on both sides. Long sustained drives to minimize the other teams scoring.

this shortens the game by at least 2-3 possessions per game by chewing up the clock.

Shrinking the number of possesions really helps our defense, especially since we're down a couple DL. Watching some of the new guys on the DL growing each week is very nice. Those young DL are learnng their trade against some very good teams and winning in the process.

UT didn't seem to throw downfield very much, if at all. I can't remember any long throws. That was surprising...I thought that was one of Heupel's big tendencies.

This is the best explanation of all. It has pro and cons. But it really does work.

Yeah, I understand. I saw the starting line up before the game and I don't think Jackson played at all until 4th quarter... Lee started but was pulled for Red Morgan. Morgan played well.

Morgan came in at Husky, replacing Jones, not Lee at CB.

Certainly Morgans best game after having some pretty rough outings last year and early this season.

He already lost his spot. he didn't start and the last four plays last night didnt help jackson at all.
I thought the DPIs were mostly intentional too.No need to let them score and it didn't change where the ball was at too much. That is play the receiver rough and call or not they don't score and more time drifts off the clock.

Yeah and he tried to start a fight after the game. Domani has the football IQ of Tony Brown and the mouth of Jermaine Burton. Granted BOTH are NFL players but good god they BOTH had me cussing for how much potential they wasted for just not being better at one aspect of one thing of their game. Domani COULD be a 1st or 2nd rounder based on talent but he constantly does some very questionable things and makes some questionable decisions. The Missouri opening TD is still the most baffling amongst them.
