Rader has been a HC before with Tulsa right? I don't mean this as a knock on him, just a question. I think I remember correctly that he was completely out of coaching at the time he started at Alabama, running his company. Is that correct? If so, couple that with our lack of offensive production over the past couple of years and to me it wouldn't make him one of the "hot" assistants that are mentioned for open HC positions.
I thought the pattern kind of went, some school's offense or defense is ranked very highly nationally, the Coordinator is some young up & comer or maybe some old coach looking for redemption and their name starts being tossed around as good replacements for outgoing coaches. Rader (not blaming him, just stating a fact) doesn't seem to fit that mold--(1) we haven't been an offensive powerhouse the past three years; and (2) he wasn't an old and/or disgraced coach proving himself again, he'd been out of coaching for a while. If anything Kines fits that mold more than anybody on our current staff to me. With our back to back top finishes in national defense I could see his name or a defensive assistant's name being mentioned, but not an offensive coach; at least not yet.
Plus, I was under the impression that Rader came back to coaching as a favor to Shula. If that is the case I have to wonder if he would want to coach somewhere else.
