I once had a decent memory for Super Bowls from the Mid 80s to Early 00s and then I really lost track.

My brain kind of stopped working and I lost NFL interest too.

But I knew there would be so much pain in those rankings as a Broncos fan…lol

The win over the Packers was for sure the high point and has the iconic Helicopter Scramble Run by Elway.

I can barely even remember winning the one with Manning. I hated him being QB.

I don’t really have a heartbreaking type game because the Broncos either played decent and won or got absolutely embarrassed from almost the get go.

From your Top Tier the main two games I remember a bit from is the 49ers over the Bengals (That was the Montana Drive right?) and the Giants over the Bills by 1 off the missed FG at the end.

That's correct.

I think a lot of folks might try to put Super Bowl 23 into the Super Bowl 34 (Rams-Titans) category, but I disagree. Prior to Scott Norwood's missed kick (35 years ago today btw), it was the best game I'd seen. NO, there wasn't a lot of scoring, but two main players (one on each team) left the game with broken legs, it was tied, a guy who had just become a father returned the second-ever KICKOFF return for a touchdown, and Joe Montana to Jerry Rice lit up the second half.

Super Bowl 34 was a great fourth quarter but massively overrated. The Rams led, 9-0, at the half and 16-0 when Blaine Bishop went out with that neck injury. ONLY THEN did the game suddenly get good. And people forget a key point...when Mike Jones tackled Kevin Dyson, he did not "save the game."

He saved overtime.

Not a great game, a great fourth quarter. What's funny is the 1985 Iron Bowl is the same way although not nearly as severe.

Anyone that likes Super Bowl LI needs to be punched in the throat.

But it was also a massively overrated GAME as a whole. You'd think "first overtime in SB history" would be a contest for all-time, but the entire game was basically:
a) 28-3 lead
b) Patriots pecking away at the lead
c) Atlanta playing defense even when their offense was on the field
d) the last two Patriot possessions, one in overtime

There could not have been a single person in this country surprised by how the overtime possession unfolded if they'd watched the last 20 minutes of the game.

I knew how that one would end just from being a Braves Fan.

The “We’re gonna do a Classic Atlanta Thing Here” vibe was palpable.

I was a torn a bit with feeling bad for you guys but also wrapped up in the crazy comeback… as a neutral fan you want to see it completed.

I really do hope the Falcons can win one eventually just for ya’ll though.

I never once thought the Falcons were going to win that game.
Not even when ahead, 28-3.
My thought was, "If we can score one more TD and go up by 32, I'll feel pretty good about it, especially if we can eat some clock."

But I never once thought the Falcons were going to win the game - and once we blew it on the "all you need is a field goal to put it out of reach" possession, I was shaking my head the rest of the game.

I know there are worse moments for the Falcons that I have missed BUT:

- in their very first appearance in a preseason game against Philly in 1966, the Atlanta kicker MISSED THE BALL (Wade Traynham) on the first ever attempted opening kickoff
- Traynham disputes this, saying it was in the regular season against Philly, he slipped, and made a perfect onsides kick as a result
- that might be true, but he also strained a thigh muscle and missed the rest of the season
- Dave Hampton became the first 1,000 yard rusher in Falcons history, they stopped the game and gave him a trophy, and he was tackled for a 6-yard loss on the next play, ending the year with 995 yards
- the next year, he was THREE YARDS short of 1,000
- in 1977, the Falcons had perhaps the greatest pre-1978 defense in NFL history, giving up only 9.2 ppg (the 1985 Bears gave up 12.4 and the 2000 Ravens gave up 10.3)....and finished 7-7
- in 1978, the Falcons led the Cowboys, 20-13, in their first-ever divisional playoff, knocked Roger Staubach out with a late hit and gave up two TDs to lose to Danny White, 27-20.
- in 1980, Atlanta was the #1 seed in the playoffs and blew 4th quarter leads of 24-10 and 27-17 with 4 minutes left to lose to Dallas, 30-27.
- in 1982, the Falcons made the playoffs and scored 12 points on defense while giving up 30 and losing.
- in 1992, their coach (Jerry Glanville) told them to trade Chris Miller so he could make the backup the starter, and they traded the backup....a guy named Brett Favre
- in 1998, they made the first Super Bowl in franchise history only to have their best DB (and outspoken Christian) get arrested the night before the game for solicitation
- their star QB went to jail for running a dogfighting ring
- the Falcons blew a 17-0 lead in the NFC title game, which had the net effect of misleading some idiots into thinking Colin Kaepernick was actually a decent QB
- the game we're talking about right here
- the Falcons have only made the playoffs ONCE since the Super Bowl collapse and have 8 straight losing seasons, tying their previous longest record of futility (8 straight losing seasons) of 1983-90.

That loss to the niners and Kaepernick was the one where the failcons did not seem to understand that the tightend is an eligible receiver.
