The best sherbet that I have ever tasted is called Guri-Guri. It is made by a Japanese family in Kahului, Maui at a tiny Ice Cream shop at the Maui Mall. There are only two flavors Strawberry and Pineapple.
I lived in Honolulu for twelves years and my wife is originally from Maui. We visit family there often. Everytime I go to Maui I have to make sure that I go and get some Guri-Guri. It is really good. I don't know what the special ingredient is but it gives it a silky smooth texture and the taste is unforgettable. It really is almost addicting like the article says. It is different from any sherbet I have ever tasted. It's kind of a mixture of a good Italian Ice, a fruit sorbet and a creamy sherbet.
In the article Tasaka said his grandfather Jokichi invented Guri-Guri, and that it was something he "just made up" one day. The Guri-Guri name comes from the phrase "goodie-goodie", which is what the family originally called its frozen creation during Maui's plantation days.
Gimme-gimme
some Guri-Guri
Here is an article with what they say is a close approximation or guess at how to make Guri-Guri. I can't vouch for it because I haven't made it yet. If it is half as good as Guri-Guri it will be great.

Goodie Goodie is fun to make and tastes almost like the Maui sherbet Guri-Guri.
