Did anyone else besides me watch Glenn Beck's show yesterday? His guest was Rick Santorum, who I'll admit, I never did like, but...

Surely I misunderstood what he meant. He was talking to Glenn and perhaps I was daydreaming, and not paying attention, but...

I thought he was using an example of American exceptionalism, sticktoitiveness, and bravery, when he told how the union soldiers defeated the Confederates. Duh!!!

Couldn't he have used the example of how we defeated the Brits in the Revolutionary War, the Germans in WWI and WWII ?

Instead he had to tell how those wonderful, smart, union soldiers whupped us stupid southerners, smiling all the while he was running his mouth. And Glenn didn't get it either.

Damn Yankees don't "get it", do they? Does that idiot realize that he lost the votes on super Tuesday - of 1/4 of the country with his "hoof and mouth" disease?

Yesterday afternoon I searched for an e-mail address to send him one of my "friendly" messages, but couldn't find one. Oh, I found his website but there was no e-mail address. So I guess I'll just send this to Glenn Beck's e-mail address, and tell them to forward it to Rick.

Anyone else hear him? If so, please tell me he's not that stupid!

Is this the same interview where Glenn told Rick "I could kiss you in the mouth" in regards to Santorum's support of the Cut, Cap, and Balance Pledge?

Anyways, if you thought Rick Santorum was a legit candidate, well, there lies a bigger problem.

But if the Union hadn't beaten the Confederacy, the whole concept of American Exceptionalism that came about in the later 19th century, which continued into the 2 World Wars, would have never come about.

Trying to make sense out of a conversation between those two is beyond me. :)

They depend on stupid people for their audience. Beck is not stupid, he just knows how to milk stupid people.

Santorum is, well, google him.

Talking about Santorum can be a frothy and mixed up matter.

I lived in PA while Santorum was our senator. He is, indeed, that stupid.

Apparently it was the same interview however I didn't see/hear that part of it.

I'm curious. Could you elaborate on this? I don't get what you were trying to say here. Are you saying that American exceptionalism did not come about until the late 19th century?

I had the misfortune of seeing that interview too. I was at the gym and couldn't change the channel because the remote was lost... otherwise I would have never watched it. I have NEVER liked that smarmy little Santorum, but I caught what he said too and I was highly PO'ed and I thought it was a real DA thing to say too. The good part was, my anger made me wear that Stairmaster OUT. But I can't stand that guy! He's barely getting a couple of points in the polls, he's not popular and I couldn't figure out why Beck had him on. Does Glenn just want to totally kill his ratings before he leaves the air?

Well, the term didn't come about until the 1920's, but I guess what I'm trying to say is that America's growth after the Civil War, especially through industrialization and such, wouldn't have occurred had the Confederacy won.

Hey guys and gals. I have the whole transcript of Santorum on Beck's Show and if anyone wants to read it, I can post it, but here is the part that got my goat:

(((SANTORUM: Yes. You just look at people throughout history. I was remarking about one such man that I am familiar with, Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain, who fought at the battle of Gettysburg and led the 20th Maine, who was at the end of the Union line, and in the second day battle, ran, fought the advance, flank the Union line. It would have cut off the Union Army from Washington, maybe defeated the Union Army at that moment and fired until he had no ammunition, and then ordered a bayonet charge down the hill, sacrificing everything and captured the Confederate in a brilliant move and won the day.
And 25 years later, he came and gave a speech right at that ground. And he talked about how -- and he asked his men to sort of close their eyes and think about here we are on the death field and that people will come, people that we don't know but they'll come to see what we did here. And that's the purpose of life, is to live forever in the minds of people, to have sacrifice and served so people who we know not of will come here to remember what we did and be inspired by that.)))

And this should arch your back too:

From the article about Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain:

The men from Maine waited until troops from the 15th Alabama Infantry regiment, under Col. William C. Oates, charged up the hill, attempting to flank the Union position. Time and time again the Confederates struck, until the 20th Maine was almost doubled back upon itself.
