Saban answers queston about Jimmy Johns on "hey coach" (pay attention 'doubters'!)

last nite on "hey coach" a lady asked cns about JJ, might we see him next week, how we needed a big back at the goal line etc."I'm glad you asked that; Jimmy is getting a little more consistent and is working hard, and is showing more improvement". His answer was quite long, so I'm just giving you the gist of it.
Here's the statement that should quieten some grumblers that are (calling in to talk show hosts) about JPW and Jimmy J.
"I'm not mad, (answering the lady)but of all things that were written in the Miami Herald, I WAS NEVER ACCUSED OF NOT PLAYING THE RIGHT PLAYERS!!"

"In two years of recruiting we should be able to compete." "I'd like to play West Virginia"

Note---The above isn't word for word nor verbatem but it's close enough to get the picture!

Have an elephant size day!!

We do have opionated fans, don't we?!:) Can always tell what they think should be done by questions asked. As I heard (unable to get reception in my area) the recap each week, almost glad I am unable to hear 'live'.:)

I hope all the 2nd guessers have their resumes updated to forward next time Alabama has an open position for 'coach'. Even if they only lasted a week bet they'd leave with a completely different view.

Thanks for the 'report'!

In one week most wouldn't be able to put all the names with the right faces :)

Exactly! If all these people who think they could coach or play better actually could, they'd all be out there!!!

Its a shame that it took almost a whole season for the light to come on with JJ.

It is a shame it took this long, but better late than never. And JJ would still have the Iron Bowl and all next season to prove what he can do on the field. Congrats JJ, look forward to seeing you out there buddy. :)

Re: Saban answers queston about Jimmy Johns on "hey coach"(pay attention 'doubters'!)

Here is my one and only issue. I know that JJ's problem has been BLOCKING...we all know that. However, he played a few downs in the backfield early in the season but if memory serves wasn't handed the ball. Given that JJ was the best back we had last year and his size and speed are even better this year for running the ball, it is sad to me that he hasn't been given an opportunity to do so over the past four games.

Also, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that when you're at the 2 yard line your best bet is a big back "IF" your intention is to run it straight over right tackle, which we did twice last week and didn't score. You don't have to be the best blocker in the world "IF" your role is designated scorer inside the 5 yard line. For years teams has "designated leapers" whose main job was to score from the 3 yard line in.

My only point is that JJ was not following CNS' rules to a "T" or he would have been playing more than special teams this year. With that said, your job is to win games and frankly it is MY PERSONAL OPINION that JJ running the ball against LSU and MSU would have LIKELY given us a better chance at winning and if he plays tomorrow or against Awdarn our chances also increase because he is rarely stopped for no gain or a loss.

Again this is JUST MY PERSONAL OPINION!

He will "show" JJ this week so the Barn won't be surprised to see him next week. Stand by for some sort of trickeration.

There are no favorites in "the process". Doesn't matter if JJ playing could have won us every game, the precedent has to be set. Practice hard, come strong every play, dominate your opponent in all phases of the game, and you will play. JJ is a wonderful football player, JJ sold on "the process" could be a monster. .

Re: Saban answers queston about Jimmy Johns on "hey coach"(pay attention 'doubters'!)

I really really find it hard to believe that it has taken 10 games for JJ to learn the dang goal line formation and how to get 1-3 tough yards..... NO WAY he has done something to not get playing time whether its attitude or lack of effort but there is no way we shouldn't be able to line up Huber and JJ in the goal line formation and drive the DL into submission of at least 1-3 yds!!!

I can understand if he cannot pass block thats a whole different technique issue which does take time and skill to learn but running around, over & through people has never been a problem for him from what I saw last year.. He is to good of a short yardage player to not be pounding it in there and Huber is a great blocker so to me CMA has not done a good job of using or at least trying that package in short yardage!!!

On a side note it does not appear that he has a problem with flying down the field with total disregard for his body on special teams so if a guy can give that type of effort on special teams then there is something just not right... Give the guy a chance is what most BAMA fans seem to want... It goe for the QB situation as well no one (well not me anyway) is saying GM is the answer or is better nor do I believe I can coach anywhere near what CNS can but, giving people a chance is what makes great players look at Brett Favre & Rice they are two of the best the NFL has ever had and they were at small time programs but given a chance to compete they showed their metal and made a name for themselves... JMHO!!

also on the coach's show...

anybody else hear him say when he was talking about his conversations he had at the FSU game with WV people about scheduling WV in the future. Coach Saban said something to the effect of- letting him get a couple of years worth of players in there before they scheduled them...

anybody else hear that? i thought it was funny....

We may have won but for what? A short term gain? What good does it do to try and instill discipline and a good work ethic if you are not going to stand by your rules? While it just may have cost us a game this year, it could win us alot more in the future if the players realize that if they want to play they have to abide by the rules. I am willing to sacrifice a win this year in order to reap the long term rewards.

Re: Saban answers queston about Jimmy Johns on "hey coach"(pay attention 'doubters'!)

Apparently some of y'all just don't get it. Coach Saban's objective is to have every member of the team busting their humps to improve themselves as football players and there's no room for complacity regardless of physical skills or short term success. Coach Bryant had the same philosophy, no prima-donnas, no slackers, no short cuts to PT. We all know how well that worked, don't we?

Coach Saban isn't so much interested in beating the MSUs of today as he is in beating anybody down the road. :BigA::BigA::BigA:

Re: Saban answers queston about Jimmy Johns on "hey coach"(pay attention 'doubters'!)

I would rather CNS set and abide by his dicipline rules now and get everyone on the same page than beat MSU this year because in the long run it will pay big dividends. If he's gonna let one player get by with whatever it is keeping him off the field then he will have to let evryone slide and there goes discipline. Can't consistantly win without discipline.
